1. Nepal’s Kami Rita Sherpa climbs Mount Everest for 26th time to set new world record
- Nepal’s legendary climber Kami Rita Sherpa has climbed Mt Everest, the tallest peak in the world, for the 26th time to set a new world record.
- Leading an 11-member rope fixing team, Kami Rita & his team reached the summit, breaking his own previous world record.
- He first climbed Everest in May 1994.
2. MHA and SECI sign MoU to realize India’s green energy initiative
- In order to realize green energy objectives and the GOI’s efforts towards a carbon-neutral economy, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) in New Delhi.
- The move will help generate solar power up to 71.68 megawatts.
3. Supreme Court gets 2 new judges, set to regain full strength of 34
- Gauhati High Court Chief Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Gujarat High Court Judge Justice Jamshed Burjor Pardiwala have been appointed as judges of the Supreme Court.
- The Supreme Court will have its full sanctioned strength of 34 judges until the retirement of Justice Vineet Saran on May 10.
- Justice B.V. Nagarathna, is in line to be the first woman CJI.
4. Manipur: Poumai Naga tribe declares Poumai inhabited areas to be Drug-Free Zone
- Poumai tribe, one of the major Naga tribes living in Manipur’s hill district, Senapati have recently declared their villages a no-drugs zone in order to help the state government curb the drug menace including illegal poppy cultivation.
- The step would also help in protecting & preserving forests, which are being destroyed for poppy cultivation.
5. India embarks on the World’s largest film restoration project under National Film Heritage Mission
- Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting Shri.
- Anurag Singh Thakur has announced that the World’s largest film restoration project under National Film Heritage Mission (NFHM) with a budget of Rs. 363 crores is awarded on 4th May 2022 by the Ministry.
- The restoration project now awarded is set to commence in full swing at National Film Archive of India (NFAI).
6. Haryana launches app to track movement of sand, mining vehicles
- Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar launched a Vehicle Movement Tracking System (VMTS) mobile app that will help in tracking vehicles carrying sand and other mining material.
- The app will be used at different checkpoints in all the districts of Haryana and vehicle details —like vehicle number, vehicle type, moving from, moving to — along with driver details.
7. India logs 6.2 percent hike in death rate during 2020: CRS data
- The Central government has released the Civil Registration System (CRS) report 2020 based on birth and death reports.
- The Vital Statistics of India based on the Civil Registration System’ for 2020 report said that in the case of registered deaths, the number has increased from 76.4 lakh in the year 2019 to 81.2 lakhs in 2020 showing an increase of 6.2 percent.
8. Formula One pioneer Tony ‘Racing Dentist’ Brooks dies aged 90
- Motorsport pioneer Tony Brooks, who won six Formula One grands prix in the 1950s and was nicknamed the “Racing Dentist”, has died aged 90.
- The Briton had been the last surviving Formula One race winner of the 1950s.
9. Sudarshan Venu appointed Managing Director of TVS Motor
- Sudarshan Venu has been appointed as the new Managing Director of the TVS Motor Company.
- He is the son of Venu Srinivasan, who has now become the Chairman Emeritus.
- Prior to this, Sudarshan was the Joint Managing Director of the company.
- TVS has also announced the appointment of Prof. Sir Ralf Speth as the Chairman of the company.
10. ISRO plans Venus Mission, to be launched in Dec 2024
- After sending missions to the Moon and Mars, the ISRO is now readying a spacecraft to orbit Venus to study what lies below the surface of the solar system’s hottest planet, and also unravel the mysteries under the Sulfuric Acid clouds enveloping it.

11. UN-Energy Plan of Action Towards 2025 launched
- Against the backdrop of a global energy crisis and worsening climate emergency, the United Nations took a major step to catalyse the large-scale action and support needed for the transition to clean, affordable energy for all and net-zero emissions with the launch of a UN-Energy Plan of Action Towards 2025.
- The ‘Plan of Action’ was launched by some 30 leading organisations comprising UN-Energy.
12. NASA climate research scientist wins World Food Prize
- A NASA climate research scientist who has spent much of her career explaining how global food production must adapt to a changing climate was awarded the World Food Prize.
- Cynthia Rosenzweig, an agronomist and climatologist, was awarded the $250,000 prize in recognition of her innovative modeling of the impact of climate change on food production.
13. Sebi rejigs 18-member secondary market advisory panel
- Sebi has restructured its committee on secondary markets, which provides suggestions to the capital markets regulator on improving market safety, efficiency and transparency.
- The 18-member advisory committee will now be chaired by G Mahalingam, former whole time member of Sebi.
- Earlier, the panel had 17 members and was headed by Sebi chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch.
14. Kerala govt to launch app for diagnosing, controlling lifestyle diseases.
- The Kerala government is ready to launch an Android app — ‘Shaili App’ — aimed at diagnosing and controlling lifestyle diseases among people in the southern State.
- The app has been set up as part of the population-based screening project launched by the Health Department under the Nava Kerala Karma plan.
