1. India-Bangladesh holds 7th Round of Joint Consultative Commission in New Delhi
- The seventh round of the India-Bangladesh Joint Consultative Commission (JCC) was held in New Delhi.
- It was co-chaired by External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar and his Bangladesh counterpart Dr. A.K. Abdul Momen.
- Jaishankar said India is looking forward to working on new areas of cooperation with Bangladesh including artificial intelligence, cyber security, startups, fintech.
- This was the first physical JCC meeting after the Covid-19 pandemic.
2. Six high courts get new chief justices
- 5 High Court (HC) judges were elevated as chief justices (CJ).
- CJ of Telangana HC, Justice Satish Chandra Sharma, was transferred to the Delhi High Court in the same capacity.
- Appointments as CJ:
- Vipin Sanghi – Uttarakhand HC;
- Amjad A Sayed – Himachal Pradesh HC;
- S S Shinde – Rajasthan HC;
- Rashmin M Chhaya – Gauhati HC;
- Ujjal Bhuyan – Telangana HC.
3. PM Modi inaugurates Delhi’s Pragati Maidan tunnel, five underpasses
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 1.3-km-long Pragati Maidan tunnel and five underpasses on Mathura Road.
- The Pragati Maidan corridor has been built at a cost of more than Rs 920 crore and is funded entirely by the Union government.
- It is aimed at providing hassle-free access to the new world-class exhibition & convention centre being developed at Pragati Maidan.
- The tunnel is 1.6 KM long.
4. Women soldiers participate in ‘Women Peace and Security’ Seminar in Mongolia
- Women soldiers of the Indian Army participated in the four-day ‘Women Peace and Security’ Seminar at Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
- The four-day event was held under the auspices of Mongolian President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh.
- This year marks the 20th anniversary of the first deployment of Mongolian peacekeepers to UN peacekeeping operations.
5. UNESCO’s King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize for 2021: CIET, NCERT under Department of School Education & Literacy wins this prize
- Use of ICT under a comprehensive initiative called PM eVIDYA by Department of School education, Ministry of Education (MoE), particularly during COVID-19 pandemic won the prize.
- Award honours creative ideas to utilising new technology to improve educational & lifetime possibilities for all people in accordance with SDG Goal 4 on Education.
- PM eVIDYA was launched on May 2020.
- Central Institute of Educational Technology (CIET) is a constituent unit of NCERT.
6. For Indian startups, HSBC India will lend $250 million
- Foreign lender HSBC India announced that it will lend $250 million to startups in the country.
- The bank did not specify the timeframe for disbursal of the amount.
- The lending will be done to high-growth, tech-led startups in the third largest startup ecosystem in the world, the lender said in a statement.
7. To fight climate change European Parliament votes to ban sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2035
- Members of the European Parliament have voted to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2035.
- The move aims to step up the fight against climate change through the faster development of electric vehicles.
- The European Union assembly voted in Strasbourg, France to require automakers to cut carbon-dioxide emissions by 100 percent by the middle of the next decade.
8. Celebration Baikho festival for good harvest and rain in Assam
- Baikho festival is a celebration of good harvest.
- It is an ancient tradition that is predominantly observed by the Rabha Tribe.
- Rabhas are a Tibeto-Burman community who reside majorly in Lower Assam, Garo hills and West Bengal’s Dooar region.
- They are among the plains tribe in Assam.
- They are an agriculture based community who have distinctive culture and celebrations.
9. To boost investment in UP Defense Industrial Corridor UPEIDA signs MoUs with PSBs
- Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) has signed MoUs with SBI, Bank of Baroda, PNB and SIDBI to boost investment in the UP Defense Industrial Corridor.
- In addition to this, UPEIDA also signed an MOU with the IIT Kanpur Research and Technology Park Foundation for research and development in the field of aerospace and defence ecosystem.
10. Punjab abolishes physical stamp papers of all denominations and launches e-stamping facility
- In a decision to bring more efficiency and check the pilferage of state revenue, the Punjab government has abolished physical stamp papers.
- The stamp paper of any denomination can now be obtained via e-stamp (computerized print-out) from any stamp vendor or from banks authorised by the state government.
- This decision will at least save Rs 35 Crore annually.
11. Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships: India’s Pranati Nayak wins bronze medal
- Pranati Nayak has bagged a bronze medal in the vault section of the 9th Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Doha, Qatar.
- This is Pranati’s second medal in the Asian Championships, making her the only Indian to win two medals in the Continental Championships.
- With this score, Pranati finished behind South Korea’s Yeo Seo-Jeong (14.084)& Shoko Miyata (13.884) of Japan.
12. 14th BRICS Summit: China’s Xi Jinping to host it in Beijing on June 23
- Chinese President Xi Jinping will host the 14th BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) Summit in Beijing on June 23.
- The Dialogue will be held in virtual format under the theme of “Foster a Global Development Partnership for the New Era to Jointly Implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”.
13. RBI raises limit of e-mandates for transactions up to Rs 15,000
- RBI raised the Additional Factor of Authentication (AFA) limit from Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000 per transaction for e-mandates on cards, Prepaid Payment Instruments (PPIs) and UPI for recurring transactions.
- It implies, additional authentication will not be needed for payment of Rs 15,000 per transaction.
14. MoU signed by implementation partners for India’s first graphene research and innovation centre
- MoU was signed between the Digital University of Kerala, the Centre for Materials and Electronic Technology (C-MET) and Tata Steel to set up the India Innovation Centre for Graphene in Kochi, which is slated to be the country’s first research and development knowledge centre for graphene.
- The university is the first on-campus digital varsity in the country.
15. Neeraj Chopra to lead 37-member athletics team for CWG 2022
- The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) named a 37-member Indian athletics team, to be led by Olympic champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Birmingham from July 28 to August 8.
- Indian track and field athletes had won one gold (Neeraj Chopra), one silver (Seema Punia) and one bronze (Navjeet Kaur Dhillon) in the 2018 Gold Coast CWG.

16. Zomato and Jio-bp tie-up for EV
- Zomato and Jio-bp have entered into an agreement to support Zomato’s commitment towards “The Climate Group’s EV100 initiative of 100 percent EV fleet by 2030.”
- Jio-bp, the fuel and mobility joint venture between Reliance Industries Ltd and bp, will provide EV mobility services to Zomato and access to ‘Jio-bp pulse’ battery swapping stations for last-mile delivery.
17. 94% of domestic workers worldwide lack comprehensive social security: ILO
- Only 6% of domestic workers worldwide have access to comprehensive social protection with women who constitute 76.2% of the total domestic workforce particularly more vulnerable in the absence of adequate social benefits, the International Labour Organization (ILO) said.
- Region-wise, in Europe and Central Asia, 57.3% of domestic workers are legally covered for all benefits.
- A little more than 10% have such a right in the Americas.
18. Ro-Ro services: Shipping Ministry proposes guidelines for 1900-crore coastal ferry projects
- The centre has floated draft guidelines for operating Roll-on, Roll-off (Ro-Ro) ferry services on India’s coastline.
- The Ministry said that it is financially supporting 45 projects with a total project cost of Rs. 1900 crore under the gambit of Sagarmala including 4 projects in Andhra Pradesh, 2 projects in Odisha & one each in Tamil Nadu and Goa.
19. SAI gives go-ahead to release Rs 6.52 crore as Out of Pocket Allowance to 2189 Khelo India Athletes
- Sports Authority of India (SAI) has sanctioned a total of Rs 6.52 Crore as an Out of Pocket Allowance (OPA) for a total of 2189 Khelo India Athletes (KIAs) across 21 disciplines, including para, for the months of April to June 2022.
- A financial assistance of Rs 6.28 lakhs is allocated for each residential athlete including an OPA of Rs.1.20 lakh.
- The funding has been done as per the Khelo India Talent Development (KITD) Scheme.
20. Unmesha, a three-day international literary festival held in Himachal Pradesh
- In Himachal Pradesh 3-day international literary festival “Unmesha” was organized at the historic Gaiety Theater in Shimla.
- ‘Unmesha’ — a celebration of expression — is the biggest international literary festival in the country so far.
- Over 425 writers, poets, translators, critics and distinguished personalities from 15 countries, representing over 60 languages attended.
- Minister of State for Culture Arjun Ram Meghawal inaugurated the festival.
