Defence Minister inaugurates new manufacturing facilities at BDL in Telangana

On 3 July 2022 the Bhanur Unit of Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) in Telangana Defence Minister Rajnath Singh dedicated a number of manufacturing hubs to the Nation and he also virtually launched an RF (radio frequency) Seeker facility, which has been established at its Kanchanbagh unit with an investment of ₹50 crore.

 Important Points 

  • Mr Singh termed the inauguration – a testament to the commitment of the Defence Public Sector Undertaking towards strengthening the defence sector and realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’.
  • The inauguration is an evidence of the commitment of the Defence Public Sector Undertaking to strengthen the defence sector.
  • The manufacturing facility will produce equipment indigenously in collaboration with foreign companies in line with the vision -‘Make in India – Make for the World’.
  • The facility will play a big role in achieving Aatmanirbharta in the field of missile production.

 What is the RF Seeker Facility? 

  • The full form of RF Seeker is Radio Frequency Seeker.
  • The RF Seeker Facility is an integrated Centre for the production and testing of RF seekers.
  • Seeker is a critical and technology intensive subsystem which will be used in all future missiles for target tracking.

  • Founded: in the year 1970.

 What is atmanirbhar Bharat? 

  • On 12 May 2020, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi envisaged Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan or Self-reliant India campaign with the vision of new India. On that day he announced the Special economic and comprehensive package of Rs. 20 lakh crores, which equal to 10% of India’s GDP – to fight COVID-19 pandemic in India.
  • The aim is to make the nation and its citizens independent and self-reliant in all aspects.
