1. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh hands over new weapons system F-INSAS to Indian Army

• The full gear of the Future Infantry Soldier as a System (F-INSAS) includes an AK-203 assault rifle, which is a Russian-origin gas-operated, magazine-fed, select-fire assault rifle.
• The units of the rifle will be manufactured by an India-Russia joint venture.
• The rifle has a range of 300 metres.
• DRDO = Defence Research and Development Organisation.
• Dr G. Satheesh Reddy is the Secretary of Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO.

2. India’s IT Secretary Alkesh Kumar Sharma appointed to high-level UN internet panel

• UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appointed India’s Electronics and Information Technology Secretary Alkesh Kumar Sharma to a panel of eminent experts on internet governance.
• Internet pioneer Vint Cerf and Nobel Prize-winning journalist Maria Reesa were also appointed to the 10-member Internet Governance Forum (IGF) Leadership Panel.

3. Wholesale price-based inflation declines to 13.93% in July compared to 15.18% in preceding month

• Wholesale price-based inflation, WPI eased to 13.93 per cent in July as compared to 15.18 per cent in preceding month.
• According to the Commerce and Industry Ministry, WPI inflation fell on easing prices of food articles and manufactured products.
• Wholesale inflation was at a record high of 15.88 per cent in May this year and stood at 11.57 per cent in July last year.

4. Government approves StartUp loan for manufacturing & commercialising ‘compostable’ plastic

• The government approved a startup loan of Rs 1.15 crore to a bioplastics firm for commercialising “compostable” plastic and mitigating the usage of Single Use Plastics.
• An MoU was signed between the Technology Development Board,statutory body under Department of Science & Tech, and TGP Bioplastics Private Limited for manufacturing and commercialisation of compostable plastic

5. Defence forces, RBI and Prime Minister’s Office most trusted institutions, says survey

• Defence forces, RBI and Prime Minister of India are the three most trusted institutions in the country, according to a survey by Ipsos India.
• The Supreme Court of India came fourth and it was followed by the CBI.
• Defence Forces with at least 2 in 3 (65 percent of respondents) reposing faith in them was ranked first, followed by Reserve Bank of India with 1 in 2 (50 per cent).
• The Prime Minister of India as an institution was at the third spot with 49 per cent citizens.

6. INS Satpura arrived in San Diego, USA to commemorate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav

• Dedicated to 75 stalwarts of India’s Freedom Struggle as a remembrance of their sacrifices for the nation, Indian Naval Ship (INS) Satpura conducted a 75-lap “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Run” at San Diego US Navy Base.
• The ship hoisted the Indian Tricolour in the presence of the Indian diaspora and distinguished local dignitaries in the North American Continent.

9. UK is the first country to approve Covid booster vaccine targeting original and Omicron strains

• In each dose of the booster vaccine, ‘Spikevax bivalent Original/Omicron’, half of the vaccine (25 micrograms) targets the original virus strain from 2020, and the other half (25 micrograms) targets Omicron, The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) said.
• It is expected that the EU medicines regulator will approve the dose by next month.

10. Grenada’s Simon Stiell Appointed New UNFCCC Executive Secretary

• Grenada’s former environment minister Simon Stiell was named as the new UN Climate Change.
• He will replace Patricia Espinosa of Mexico, who has served two terms as head of the UNFCCC, from 2016 until July.

11. India gifts Sri Lanka Dornier aircraft to strengthen maritime security of the country on 76th Independence Day

• India gifted a Dornier reconnaissance aircraft to Sri Lanka to bolster the island nation’s capability to tackle drug trafficking and maritime security challenges, with the move coming a day ahead of a controversial visit by a Chinese research vessel.
• The aircraft was handed over during a special event held at the Sri Lankan Air Force base at Katunayake.
