1. NSA Doval, Russian deputy PM discuss peaceful use of outer space

  • Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov met with NSA Ajit Doval in Moscow.
  • NSA = National Security Advisor.
  • Manturov participated in the meeting in his capacity as Chair of the Russian part of the Intergovernmental Russian-Indian Commission for Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological, and Cultural Cooperation.

2. RBI cancels licence of Deccan Urban Co-operative Bank

  • Reserve Bank of India said the licence of Deccan Urban Co-operative Bank, Karnataka, has been cancelled as the lender does not have adequate capital and earning prospects.
  • As per the data submitted by the bank, more than 99 per cent of the depositors are entitled to receive the full amount of their deposits from Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC).

3. ‘Dahi-Handi’ to be an official sport in Maharashtra, ‘Govindas’ to get jobs under sports category: CM Shinde

  • ‘Dahi-Handi’ will now be recognized as an official sport in Maharashtra, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced.
  • Maharashtra CM also announced that “Pro-Dahi-Handi” competitions will also be organised in the state.
  • Insurance cover will be Rs 10 lakh if any Govinda loses his life, and Rs 5 lakh if they get partially handicapped.
  • The ‘Govindas’ will get jobs under the sports category.

4. Wipro receives multi year contract deal from HM Treasury

  • India’s fourth largest software exporter Wipro announced a multi-year service integration and management services from UK Government agency HM Treasury.
  • Wipro and the UK Government department will collaborate strategy, design, and implementation to day-to-day coordination of service integration across its vendors.

5. FSIB recommends Mohammad Mustafa as NABARD Chairman

  • The Financial Services Institutions Bureau (FSIB) recommended Mohammad Mustafa as the Chairman of NABARD.
  • Mustafa, a 1995 batch IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, served as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of SIDBI.
  • The final decision on the recommendation of FSIB would be taken by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, headed by PM Modi.

6. Arunachal Pradesh launches ‘Medicine from the Sky’: Drone-based healthcare services

  • Arunachal Pradesh successfully launched the first flight of drone service – ‘medicine from the sky’ from Seppa to Chayang Tajo in East Kameng district.
  • The pilot project has been funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and executed by Bengaluru-based startup Redwing Labs.

7. Former BCCI secretary Amitabh Choudhary passes away

  • Amitabh Choudhary, the former BCCI secretary and president of Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) passed away at the age of 62.
  • A retired senior IPS officer, who rose to the rank of IGP with the Jharkhand Police, the former top cop was also the chairman of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC).

8. NIPAM achieves target of training 1 million students on Intellectual Property (IP) awareness

  • National Intellectual Property Awareness Mission (NIPAM) has achieved the target of imparting Intellectual Property (IP) awareness and basic training to 1 million students on 31st July 2022, ahead of the deadline which was 15 August 2022.
  • NIPAM, a flagship program to impart IP awareness and basic training, was launched on 8 Dec 2021 as a part of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”.
  • 3662 Educational Institutions in 28 States and 7 UTs covered.

9. Cabinet approves the enhancement in the limit of Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme to 5 lakh cr

  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has approved the enhancement in the limit of the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) by Rs 50,000 crore from Rs. 4.5 Lakh crore to Rs. 5 Lakh crore, with the additional amount being earmarked exclusively for enterprises in hospitality and related sectors.

10. Canara HSBC Life Insurance launches its customer mobile app

  • Canara HSBC Life Insurance Co. Ltd. launched customer mobile App ‘Canara HSBC Life Insurance App’ available on android, iOS devices and web portal on the 75th Independence Day of India.
  • The newly launched digital solution will help customers to carry out transactions and access their policy and other important details from the safety and comfort of their homes.

11. Sebi rejigs advisory committee on Investor Protection and Education Fund

  • Capital markets regulator Sebi has restructured its advisory committee on Investor Protection and Education Fund (IPEF).
  • The panel is mandated to recommend investor education and protection activities that may be undertaken directly by the markets regulator, or through any other agency, for utilisation of the Sebi Investor Protection and Education Fund.
  • The eight-member committee will now be chaired by Monika Halan.

12. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal dedicated Hooghly Cochin Shipyard Limited to nation

  • Cabinet Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal dedicated the new shipyard Hooghly Cochin Shipyard Limited that specialized in inland waterways vessels to the nation.
  • The facility was developed by Hooghly Cochin Shipyard Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL), at Rs 175 crore.

13. BSF signs MoU with IRCTC to ensure safety and security of booking data, other facilities

  • The Border Security Force (BSF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) to ensure the safety and security of booking data under its air e-ticket service for the troops of India’s border guarding force.
  • This service will provide a dedicated online portal with a credit facility of 60 days.
  • BSF guards 3,323 km of India-Pakistan and 4,096 km India-Bangladesh borders.

14. Listed SMEs have better profitability ratios, higher return on assets but lower liquidity: RBI paper

  • Even as small and medium enterprises (SMEs) listed on the two SME exchanges, BSE SME and NSE Emerge, have better profitability ratios, higher return on assets & asset utilisation ratios & also debt-equity ratio in comparison to the smallest 25% of firms listed, they have lower liquidity as reflected in a lower quick ratio, current ratio & cash to current liabilities.

15. Indonesia, U.S. troops hold live-fire drill as China tensions mount

  • Thousands of troops from Indonesia, the United States, and allies held a live-fire drill on 12th August as part of Washington’s efforts to prevent a regional conflict after China’s “destabilising actions” around Taiwan.
  • The exercise in Indonesia known as “Super Garuda Shield” came after Beijing staged unprecedented war games around Taiwan.

  • UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has appointed a veteran Argentinean naval officer as Head of Mission and Chief Military Observer for the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP).
  • Rear Admiral Guillermo Pablo Ríos of Argentina succeeds Major General José Eladio Alcaín of Uruguay, who will shortly complete his assignment.
