1. Samir V Kamat appointed DRDO chairman, G Satheesh Reddy named as scientific adviser to Rajnath Singh

• Samir V Kamat has been appointed as Secretary of the Department of Defence Research and Development and Chairman of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
• Kamat, who is Director General, Naval Systems & Materials, at the DRDO will succeed G Satheesh Reddy who has been named as scientific adviser to the defence minister.
• Kamat has been appointed to the post till he attains the age of 60 years.

2. President Droupadi Murmu to confer National Teacher Awards to 46 selected awardees on 5th Sept

• President of India Smt Droupadi Murmu will confer National Awards to Teachers 2022 to 46 selected awardees on 5th September 2022 at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.
• The Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Education has been organizing a National level function on Teachers Day i.e. 5th September every year to confer the National Awards to the best teachers.
• The National Teacher Awards was first instituted in 1958.

3. The Cabinet Committee amends policy to restrict wheat flour exports to check domestic price rise

• The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the proposal for amendment of policy of exemption for wheat or Meslin Flour from export restrictions/ ban.
• Russia and Ukraine are the major exporters of wheat accounting for around 1/4th of the global wheat trade.

• Indian Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi defeated Spain’s David Anton Guijarro in the ninth and final round with 7.5 points to win the 28th Abu Dhabi Masters chess tournament.
• Uzbekistan’s Javokhir Sindarov claimed the second spot after he defeated Iran’s M Amin Tabatabaei.
• He is the 54th grandmaster from India.

5. Tata Neu, HDFC Bank partner to launch two co-branded credit card variants

• Tata Neu, the ‘super app’ of the Tata Group and HDFC Bank announced a partnership to launch co-branded credit cards.
• The card will be launched in two variants: Tata Neu Plus HDFC Bank Credit Card and Tata Neu Infinity HDFC Bank Credit Card.
• Each of the two variants of the card will be available on both RuPay and Visa networks.

6. Parivar Kalyan Card: Centre Approves UP Family ID Plan, use of Aadhaar authentication

• The Centre has granted permission to the UP government’s proposal of releasing family IDs to its residents and application of Aadhaar authentication for their details through the ministry of electronics and information technology (MEIT).
• The new 12-digit card will help the state government keep a tap on the government scheme benefits received by a family.

7. Health ministry pacts with Edelweiss General Insurance to create digital health IDs

• The health ministry opartnered with digital insurer Edelweiss General Insurance to help creating digital health IDs under Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission.
• Digital Health ID or ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) number is a 14-digit number that helps users to share and access their health records digitally with registered healthcare providers.

8. Ministry of Corporate Affairs approves Bharat Gas amalgamation with BPCL

• Bharat Gas Resources Ltd (BGRL), a 100 per cent subsidiary of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), has been amalgamated with the parent.
• The main business of BGRL is gas sourcing and retailing.
• The scheme of amalgamation has become effective on August 16.
• BGRL was incorporated in June 2018.

9. PM inaugurates Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and research centre in Mohali and Amrita Hospital in Faridabad

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Amrita hospital in Faridabad.
• The state-of-the-art facility has 2,600 beds and will be managed by Mata Amritanandamayi Math – a charitable organization spearheaded by its namesake Mata Amritanandamayi.
• The Kochi Amrita Hospital was inaugurated on 17th May 1998, by then PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
• It is touted to be Asia’s biggest private super-speciality hospital.

10. Pinaka Extended Range Rocket developed by DRDO successfully test fires in Pokharan

• Trials of the Pinaka extended range rocket, developed by DRDO, were carried out in the Pokhran firing ranges in Rajasthan.
• Multiple successful test firings were carried out during these trials.
• The Pinaka Enhanced Rocket System and the Pinaka Area Denial Munition Rocket Systems were successfully test fired in April 2022.
• The Guided Extended Range Rocket Ammunition has a range of 75 km with an accuracy of 40m.

11. Tripartite MoU signed for swift development of modern Multi Modal Logistics Parks (MMLP) under Bharatmala project

• The tripartite agreement was signed by National Highways Logistics Management Limited, Inland Waterways Authority of India, and Rail Vikas Nigam Limited for swift development of modern Multi Modal Logistics Parks under Bharatmala Pariyojna across the country.
• The objective of the agreement is to centralize freight consolidation and reduce logistics costs from 14% to 10%.
• What is Bharatmala Pariyojana?
  • It is a centrally-sponsored and funded Road and Highways project of the Government of India.

12. Rajnath Singh attends SCO Defence Ministers’ meeting in Tashkent

• Defence Minister Rajnath Singh attended the annual meeting of defence ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states in Uzbekistan.
• Defence cooperation issues among the SCO member states were among the issues discussed during the meeting.
• Uzbekistan took over the chairmanship of the organization from Tajikistan on September 17, 2021.

14. Reserve Bank of India lifts business restrictions imposed on American Express

• The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has lifted restrictions on American Express Banking Corp. and has allowed the entity to onboard new customers on its card network.
• The RBI had said the supervisory action has been taken in the exercise of powers vested in it under Section 17 of the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007.

16. The India Clean Air Summit 2022 begins in Bengaluru

• The fourth edition of the India Clean Air Summit began in Bengaluru with global experts set to discuss an integrated approach to resolving air pollution and climate change.
• The summit has been organised by think-tanks Centre for Air Pollution Studies (CAPS) and the Centre for Study of Science, Technology and Policy (CSTEP).
