1. Transgender persons to get composite healthcare services under Ayushman Bharat benefits

  • In a landmark decision today, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between National Health Authority (NHA) under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Department of Social Justice and Empowerment to provide an inclusive and composite health package for Transgender Persons under Ayushman Bharat-PMJAY.
  • The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019.

  • About Ayushman Bharat-PMJAY:
    • Full form is – Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.
    • It is a national public health insurance fund of the GOI.
    • It aims to provide free access to health insurance coverage for low income earners in the country.

2. Anang Tal site in Delhi to be Centrally protected

  • The Anang Tal lake in South Delhi, believed to have been built a thousand years ago, has been declared a monument of national importance through a gazette notification by the Ministry of Culture earlier this week.
  • As per the website of National Mission on Monuments and Antiquities, Tradition ascribes this tank to a Tomar King, Anang Pal II, the builder of Lal Kot.
  • The Anang Tal lake is situated in Mehrauli, Delhi.

3. India’s first 3D printed post office to soon come up in Halasuru area of the state Karnataka

  • Cambridge Layout in Halasuru is set to witness this technological marvel, making it the first post office in the country to be built using 3D printing.
  • Larsen & Toubro Construction has been approached in connection with building the Halasuru Bazaar sub-post office.
  • It is said to be the only company undertaking 3D printing-enabled construction in India.

4. Angela Merkel wins UNESCO peace prize for ‘efforts to welcome refugees’

  • Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel received the 2022 Peace Prize “in recognition of her efforts to welcome refugees,” according to UNESCO.
  • In accordance with the United Nations Charter and the UNESCO Constitution, the prize was established in 1989.
  • After 16 years in office, Merkel left her position as head of state of Germany in 2021.

5. Centre signs headquarters agreement with CDRI, enables international status

  • The Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) and the Government of India (GoI) signed a headquarters agreement.
  • The agreement will enable the status of an ‘Independent and International Legal Entity’ for CDRI.
  • The headquarters agreement basically gives CDRI a global organisation.

6. HPCL commences its first cow dung to Compressed Biogas project

  • HPCL commenced its Cowdung to Compressed Biogas Project at Sanchore, Rajasthan.
  • This will be HPCL’s first project under the Waste to Energy portfolio.
  • The project is being developed under GOBAR-Dhan scheme launched by Government of India in Apr’18 as a part of the Biodegradable Waste Management component under Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen).

7. Chhattisgarh to set up 300 rural industrial parks in one year

  • In a move aimed to strengthen the rural economy, the Chhattisgarh government will set up rural industrial parks in the state.
  • In the first year of the project, there will be 300 such parks.
  • The first such park in Chhattisgarh came up in Kulgaon, Kanker district, which has been named Gandhi Gram.

8. J&K Govt launches Village Defence Guards Scheme-2022 to keep terror-wracked region secure with help of locals

  • The Jammu and Kashmir government in its communication has said that the Village Defence Groups constituted in pursuance of the government order have over the years successfully ensured the safety and security of the identified vulnerable villages and supplemented the efforts of the security forces in maintaining internal security.

9. India Successfully tests-fires Short Range Surface-To-Air Missile

  • Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Navy successfully flight tested Vertical Launch Short Range Surface-to-Air Missile (VL-SRSAM) from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur off the coast of Odisha.
  • The missiles, equipped with indigenous Radio Frequency (RF) seeker, intercepted the target with high accuracy.
  • The VL-SRSAM system has been indigenously designed and developed by DRDO.

11. ICRA projects 13% GDP growth in Q1FY23

  • India’s GDP growth is projected to spike to a four-quarter high 13 per cent in Q1 (April-June) FY23 due to low base of Covid 2.0 and robust recovery in contact-intensive services, according to ICRA.The Q1 FY23 GDP projection is a sharp jump from 4.1 per cent in Q4 FY22.
  • Overall, ICRA expects GDP growth in Q1 FY23 to trail the 16.2 per cent projected by the MPC.

12. Researchers of IIT Guwahati develops new method to produce sugar substitute ‘Xylitol’ from sugarcane waste

  • Researchers at the IIT Guwahati have developed an ultrasound-assisted fermentation method to produce a safe sugar substitute called “Xylitol” from bagasse, the residue left after crushing of sugarcane.
  • The xylitol production from sugarcane bagasse using ultrasonic fermentation is a potential opportunity for forward integration of sugarcane industries in India.

13. NASA unveils potential regions where Artemis III could land

  • As NASA prepares to send astronauts back to the Moon as part of its Artemis missions, the space agency has identified 13 potential locations for landing crewed missions near the lunar South Pole of Earth’s sole natural satellite.
  • Artemis III will be the first Artemis mission that will bring crew to the lunar surface, including the first woman to set foot on the Moon.
  • NASA is set to launch Artemis 1 mission on August 29, 2022.

14. SIDBI and Tata Power’s TPRMG partner to foster green entrepreneurs

  • Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) has collaborated with TP Renewable Microgrid (TPRMG), a subsidiary of Tata Power, to launch 1,000 green energy enterprises across the country.
  • The initiative is aimed at promoting sustainable entrepreneurship models and empowering rural entrepreneurs.

15. Uttar Pradesh govt gears up to build India’s first education township

  • The Uttar Pradesh government is planning to build India’s first education township in the state.
  • As per the Yogi Adityanath government, the education township will be developed on the idea of ‘Single Entry, Multiple Exit’.
  • The government said the move will provide high-quality education to the youth and equip them with a variety of professional skills in a single place.
