1. Former Google executive Sajith Sivanandan appointed as EVP and Head of Disney+ Hotstar

• Disney International has appointed former Google Pay managing director Sajith Sivanandan as executive vice president and head of Disney + Hotstar to oversee its overall business operations in India, and chart a product roadmap for the over-the-top (OTT) streaming service.
• He started his career with Star TV in India and managed the North India market for Channel V.

2. World Water Week 2022 | August 23 – September 1

• World Water Week is held the last week of August every year and was initially part of a public water festival in the Swedish capital, Stockholm.

• In 2022, it will be held between Aug 23rd- Sep 1st.

3. Sebi introduces prudential limits on PMS investments in related firms

• The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has imposed prudential limits on investments by portfolio managers in their own associates or related parties.
• Under the amended framework, portfolio management schemes’ service providers will have to obtain prior consent of their clients if they intend to invest in related companies.

4. Tomato Flu spread in India: Centre issues advisory to states on Tomato Flu

• The Centre has issued an advisory to states on Hand Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD), commonly known as Tomato Flu.
• According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Tomato Flu was first identified in the Kollam district of Kerala on May 6 and as of July 26, more than 82 children younger than 5 years with the infection have been reported by the local government hospitals.

5. Liberty Medal to be awarded to Ukrainian President Zelenskyy

• The 2022 Liberty Medal will be awarded this fall to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
• The National Constitution Center announced that Zelenskyy will be honored in a ceremony in October for what it called “his heroic defense of liberty in the face of Russian tyranny.”
• Zelenskyy has served as the nation’s president since May 2019.

9. Carlsen wins FTX Crypto Cup and Praggnanandhaa impresses by securing second place

• GM Magnus Carlsen (Norway) won the FTX Crypto Cup, the American finale of Champions Chess Tour, in Miami despite losing his final match in a tiebreak to GM R. Praggnanandhaa, who thereby secured second place in the tournament.
• GM Alireza Firouzja finished in third place.
• Magnus won the event on the basis of a higher score.

10. HDFC ERGO launches country’s first Electric Vehicles Ecosystem – ‘All Things EV’

• As a part of this initiative, the Company has unveiled a dedicated platform for existing and prospective EV ecosystem users – www.allthingsev.io, which hosts end-to-end information on this emerging sector; the platform caters to all Indians who have either purchased EVs or are planning to buy EV or to make an earning out of the booming EV space.

11. Adidas CEO Kasper Rorsted to step down next year

• Adidas CEO Kasper Rorsted will step down next year, the sports apparel maker, and the company has started looking for a successor.
• Rorsted, who has been CEO since 2016, and its supervisory board “mutually agreed” that he will hand over during the course of 2023, the Herzogenaurach, Germany-based Adidas said.

• India has nominated the dance form Garba to be inscribed on UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage list.
• UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) Director Eric Falt said that after the inclusion of ‘Durga Puja’ on the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage representative last year, India has now nominated ‘Garba’ for 2022.

13. Union Govt launches Rashtriya Puruskar Portal to bring together all awards under one platform

• The Government has launched Rashtriya Puruskar Portal to bring together all the awards of the various Ministries, Departments and agencies of the government under one platform.

• Information regarding all national awards would be available to the public on a single digital platform like eligibility etc.

14. India’s first observatory to monitor space activity to come up in Uttarakhand

• India’s first commercial space situational awareness observatory, to track objects as small as 10 cm in size orbiting the earth, will be set up in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand by Digantara, a space sector start-up.
• The space situational awareness observatory will help India track any activity in space including that of space debris and military satellites hovering India.

15. India notifies overseas investment rules and regulations to boost ease of doing business

• The Foreign Exchange Management (Overseas Investment) Rules, 2022 will subsume extant regulations pertaining to Overseas Investments and Acquisition and Transfer of Immovable Property Outside India Regulations, 2015.
• The rules have been framed by the Government of India in consultation with the Reserve Bank.

16. IREDA signs MoU with MAHAPREIT to provide loans for Green Energy projects

• Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) Ltd. signed an MoU with Mahatma Phule Renewable Energy and Infrastructure Technology Ltd. a wholly owned subsidiary of MPBCDC (49% owned by Govt. of India and 51% owned by Govt. of Maharashtra) In accordance with the MoU, IREDA will offer financing facilities to MAHAPREIT for the Renewable Energy projects to be implemented for state.
