1. India climbs six notches to 40th position in Global Innovation Index 2022
- India climbed six notches to 40th position in the Global Innovation Index 2022 on account of improvement in several parameters, according to a report by the Geneva-based World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
- Switzerland, the United States, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands are the world’s most-innovative economies.

2. PM Modi declares 36th National Games open in Ahmedabad, Gujarat
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 36th National Games at a grand Opening Ceremony at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad.
- The National Games are being held after a long hiatus of 7 years since its previous installment in the year 2015 when Kerala played host.

3. India, California agree to collaborate on zero-emission vehicles
- India has entered into a collaboration with California for research and innovation in the field of zero-emission vehicles to spur the development of its nascent EV industry and address climate risks.
- California has the world’s most advanced zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) policies.
- It has an ambitious 100 per cent ZEV mandate by 2035.

4. RBI raises repo rate by 50 bps to 5.9%: Buying home set to get costlier
- The six-member Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) voted 5-1 to up the policy repo rate by 50 basis points (bps) to rein in the above target inflation and address concerns around weakening of the currency.
- Following the 50 bps hike, the repo rate (the interest rate at which banks borrow funds from RBI to overcome short-term liquidity mismatches) is at 5.90 per cent against 5.40.
- What is Basis Point:
- It is a unit of measure used in finance to describe the percentage change in the value of financial instruments or the rate change in an index or other benchmark.
- One basis point is equivalent to 0.01% (1/100th of a percent) or 0.0001 in decimal form.
5. Cabinet approves 4% DA hike for Central Govt employees
- Union Cabinet approved 4% additional instalment of Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief to Central Government employees and pensioners with effect from July 1, 2022.
- The move will benefit about 41.85 lakh Central Government employees and 69.76 lakh pensioners.
- The combined impact on the exchequer on account of both DA & DR would be Rs 12,852.5 crore per annum.

- DA is a calculation on inflation and allowance paid to government employees and pensioners in India.

- Dearness Relief (DR) for Central Government pensioners and family pensioners has been increased by 3% to 34%, beginning January 1, 2022, according to the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare.
6. Uttarakhand wins the Best Adventure Tourism Destination Award
- On the occasion of World Tourism Day, Uttarakhand received the first prize in two categories, for the best adventure tourism destination and all-around development of tourism from the Ministry of Tourism.

7. ADB to Devote $14 Billion to Help Ease Food Crisis in Asia-Pacific
- The Asian Development Bank said it will devote at least $14 billion through 2025 to help ease a worsening food crisis in the Asia-Pacific.
- The development lender said it plans a comprehensive program of support to help the 1.1 billion people in the region who lack healthy diets due to poverty and soaring food prices.

- The Adani Group will develop a port in India’s West Bengal state at a planned investment of more than $3 billion, as the port-to-power conglomerate continues to bolster its grip over the local infrastructure and logistics sectors.
- The greenfield project will entail a total investment of ₹25,000 crore ($3.1 billion), of which ₹15,000 crore will go toward port development.

9. India gets its first Dugong Conservation Reserve in Tamil Nadu
- Tamil Nadu announced the country’s first ‘Dugong Conservation Reserve’ in Palk Bay covering the coastal waters of Thanjavur and Pudukottai districts with an area of 448 square kilometers.
- Dugongs are the largest herbivorous marine mammals in the world thriving primarily on seagrass beds, a major carbon sink of the oceans.

10. Govt signs MoU with Amazon to provide training, jobs to people with disabilities in e-commerce sector

11. Airtel Payments Bank to install 1.5 lakh micro ATMs this fiscal

- Airtel Payments Bank is now integrated with the National Payments Corporation of India’s (NPCI) – National Financial Switch (NFS) to facilitate micro ATM transactions.

- The Centre has decided to appoint Lt General Anil Chauhan (retd) as the next Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).

- Lt General Anil Chauhan (retd) shall also function as the Secretary to the Government of India, Department of Military Affairs.
- He was commissioned into the 11 Gorkha Rifles of the Indian Army in 1981.
13. Cabinet approves India-Bangladesh MoU to withdraw water from Kushiyara river
- The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, gave its ex-post facto approval for a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Bangladesh for withdrawal of up to 153 cusecs of water each by both the counties from the river Kushiyara which lies along the border during the dry season.
