1. HCL’s Shiv Nadar named country’s most generous philanthropist, donated Rs 3 crore per day

  • With an annual donation of Rs 1,161 crore, Software giant HCL’s founder, Shiv Nadar, has bagged the title of ‘India’s Most Generous’, as per the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2022.
  • Wipro’s Azim Premji slipped to the 2nd spot with an annual donation of Rs 484 crore.
  • Rohini Nilekani emerged as the most generous woman philanthropist with a donation of Rs 120 crore.

4. CCI clears Verventa Holdings, Carlyle Group’s stake purchase in YES Bank

  • The Competition Commission of India (CCI) approved the proposed Rs 8,900 crore deal wherein two entities will buy stakes in Yes Bank.
  • CA Basque Investments, part of the Carlyle Group, and Verventa Holdings, an affiliate of funds managed by Advent International are to acquire 10 per cent stake each in the private sector lender.

5. Centre allows MSMEs to avail non-tax benefits for three years post reclassification

  • The central government will allow all registered micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to continue to avail non-tax benefits in their respective categories for 3 years post re-classification, the MSME ministry said.
  • Non-tax benefits include benefits of various schemes of the government, including public procurement policy, delayed payments, etc.

6. LIC launches ‘Dhan Varsha’ — single premium savings and protection plan

  • Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) launched ‘Dhan Varsha’, a close-ended single premium plan offering savings and protection.
  • The individual the non-participating plan will be available for sale until the end of the current financial year, and will have a tenure of 10 or 15 years, LIC said in a statement.

7. India ranks 41st among 44 in Mercer CFS Global Pension Index

  • India stood at 41 position out of 44 countries in 2022 with marginal improvement in its index value compared to 40th position out of 43 countries assessed on the Global Pension Index in 2021, shows the Mercer CFS Global Pension Index survey.
  • Iceland topped the list, followed by the Netherlands, while Thailand ranked last, according to the survey.

    • India’s score in these three measurements was 33.5, 41.8 and 61 respectively.

8. Former Infosys President Ravi Kumar joins Cognizant

  • Former Infosys president Ravi Kumar is joining Cognizant as President Americas, said the company in a regulatory filing.
  • He will take on the position from January 16, 2023.
  • Kumar will be reporting directly to Brian Humphries, CEO Cognizant.
  • Cognizant also announced the appointment of Prasad Sankaran who will be heading the software and platform engineering (SPE) services.

9. PM Modi unveils HTT-40 – indigenous trainer aircraft for (Indian Air Force) IAF

  • Prime minister Narendra Modi unveiled an indigenously built aircraft – the Hindustan Turbo Trainer (HTT-40) – at the 12th DefExpo in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar.
  • The HTT-40 is a basic trainer plane designed and developed for the Indian Air Force.
  • It is another example of the government’s ‘aatmanirbhar Bharat’ scheme by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

12. Wildlife board approves Durgavati Tiger Reserve as new tiger reserve in Madhya Pradesh

  • Madhya Pradesh Wildlife Board approved a new reserve for tigers of Panna Tiger Reserve, one-fourth of which will get submerged due to the linking of the Ken-Betwa rivers.
  • The 2,339 square kilometres new tiger reserve, to be called Durgavati Tiger Reserve, will spread across Narisinghpur, Damoh and Sagar districts.In 2020, UNESCO included PTR in a global network of biospheres.

13. CCI imposes Rs 392.36 cr fine on MakeMyTrip, Goibibo, OYO for anti-competitive conduct

  • The Competition Commission of India imposed monetary penalties of ₹223.48 crore on MakeMyTrip-Goibibo(MMT- Go) and ₹168.88 crore on OYO for indulging in anti-competitive conduct in the hotel segment of their business and thereby contravened the Competition law.
  • CCI had also directed MMT-Go to amend its market behaviour, for indulging in anti-competitive conduct.
