1. Centre approves Rs 51,875 crore for P&K fertilizer for Rabi 2022-23

• The Centre has approved an additional fertilizer subsidy of Rs 51,875 crore for the rabi or winter planting season, which runs from October 2022 to March 2023.
• The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved the new nutrient-based subsidy (NBC) rates for phosphatic and potassic fertilisers.
• This will enable availability of all P&K fertilizers to the farmers during Rabi 2022-23 at the subsidized / affordable prices.

  • Under the NBS policy, a fixed rate of subsidy (in Rs per Kg basis) is announced on nutrients namely Nitrogen (N), Phosphorous (P), Potash (K) and Sulphur (S) by the government on an annual basis.

2. DRDO carries out maiden test of Phase-II of ballistic missile defence

• The AD-1 is a long-range interceptor missile designed for both low exo-atmospheric and endo-atmospheric interception of long-range ballistic missiles as well as aircraft.
• It is propelled by a two-stage solid motor and equipped with the indigenously-developed advanced control system, navigation, and guidance algorithm to precisely guide the vehicle to the target,.

3. A CMIE data shows unemployment rate surges to 7.77% in Oct compare to 6.43% in Sept

• Unemployment rate in India surged last month on the back of significant increase in rural unemployment rate, reversing the decline registered in September.
• The data from the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy shows the unemployment rate in India stood at 7.77% in October compared to a four-year low of 6.43% in September.

• Women, on average, are expected to reach retirement with just 74% of the wealth accumulated by men, a new global study – The 2022 WTW Global Gender Wealth Equity report by advisory, broking and solutions company WTW has revealed.

5. India’s R Praggnanandhaa and PV Nandidhaa win titles at Asian Continental Chess championship

• India’s Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa and Women’s Grandmaster PV Nandidhaa claimed the men’s and women’s titles respectively at the Asian Continental Chess Championship in New Delhi.

6. Ganga Utsav – The River Festival to be celebrated on 4th November, 2022

• The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) is organizing Ganga Utsav- The River Festival 2022 on 4th November, 2022 in New Delhi.
• The main objectives of Ganga Utsav 2022 is to celebrate our rivers and spread awareness on the significance of river rejuvenation across river basins in India.

7. GER improved in 2021-22 at primary, upper primary, and higher secondary levels of school education compared to 2020-21

• The Ministry of Education released a detailed report on Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) 2021-22 on school education of India.
• In 2021-22 total students enrolled in school education from primary to higher secondary stood at 25.57 crore as compared to 25.38 crore enrolment in 2020-21.

8. IMFA MD Subhrakant Panda to succeed Sanjiv Mehta as FICCI President

• The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) announced Subhrakant Panda as its President-Elect, who is currently serving as FICCI’s Senior Vice President.
• Panda is the Managing Director of Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys Ltd. (IMFA), the largest and fully integrated manufacturer of ferro alloys in the nation with in-house mining and power generation.

9. First time: CRPF appoints 2 women cadre officers as IG of RAF, Bihar sector

• In a first, the CRPF has appointed two women officers from its cadre as Inspectors General (IG) of its specialised anti-riots unit RAF and the Bihar Sector.
• Annie Abraham has been appointed as the IG of the blue duangree donning Rapid Action Force (RAF) while Seema Dhundia has been posted as the IG of the Bihar Sector.

10. French govt to honour Aruna Sairam with Chevalier award

• Carnatic vocalist Aruna Sairam will be conferred the Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Merite, the Knight of the Order of the Merit, by the French government.
• She has been selected for her singing talent and contribution to the development of Indo-France relations.
• Aruna Sairam has received many awards, including the Padma Shri and the Sangeetha Kalanidhi Award.

11. GSK India names Bhushan Akshikar as Managing Director

• GSK = GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals Limited.
• Currently, Akshikar is the commercial head of the general medicines business of GSK in India.
• His role will come into effect on December 1, 2022.
• The newly appointed MD joined GSK India in September 2011.

12. Union Cabinet approves naming new Hollongi Airport as ‘Donyi Polo Airport’

• The Union Cabinet, chaired by Narendra Modi, has approved the naming of Greenfield Airport at Hollongi, Itanagar as “Donyi Polo Airport”.
• The resolution was passed by the State Government of Arunachal Pradesh to name the airport as ‘Donyi Polo Airport, Itanagar’, which reflects the people’s reverence of the Sun (Donyi) and the Moon (Polo).

  • This project is being developed by Airports Authority of India (AAI) with the help of the central government and the Arunachal Pradesh government at a cost of ₹646 crore.
  • With a 2,300 metre runway, the greenfield airport is the first in Arunachal Pradesh to have the capacity to land big aircraft.
  • The airport supports night landing as it is equipped with homing and landing aides like VOR, ILS and Satellite based procedures for landing.

13. Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment Dr. Virendra Kumar inaugurates the Shilp Samagam-2022

• Union Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar inaugurated the SHILP SAMAGAM-2022 in New Delhi.
• Addressing the inaugration function Dr. Virendra Kumar said that through various channel partners of the three corporations – NBCFDC, NSFDC and NSKDFC under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is providing a good market system for the sale of products made by the artisans.

14. India Post Payments Bank conducts India’s First Floating Financial Literacy Camp

• India Post Payments Bank (IPPB), established under the Department of Posts (DoP), Ministry of Communication with 100% equity owned by the Government of India, conducted India’s First Floating Financial Literacy Camp with an initiative called ‘Niveshak Didi’ to promote Financial Literacy ‘By the women, for the women’, in Srinagar, J&K.
• This first floating financial literacy camp ever held in India shows the ability of DoP team to reach far & wide to every household in the country, that too in various terrains & geographies.
• It also paves the way for rural women to increase their financial products and services comprehension, beware of frauds, and stay protected with the assistance of their own Niveshak Didi, in their own language.
