1. Ghana assumes presidency of the United Nations Security Council

  • During the month of November 2022, West African country, Ghana shall preside over the meetings of the Council (adoptions, debates and consultations) and, under its authority, shall represent the Security Council in its capacity as an organ of the United Nations.
  • The Security Council, which is composed of 15 Member States, is the organ of the United Nations.

2. Ministry of Education releases Performance Grading Index for States/UTs for 2020-21

  • The Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSE&L) under the Ministry of Education released the Performance Grading Index (PGI) for States/UTs for 2020-21.
  • A total of seven States and Union Territories namely Kerala, Punjab, Chandigarh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Andhra Pradesh have attained Level -2 grading in 2020-21.
  • The prime objective of PGI is to promote evidence-based policy making and highlight course correction to ensure quality education for all.
  • So far, DoSE&L has released a PGI report for the year 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2019-20.

3. Goa Maritime Symposium 2022

  • Fourth edition of biennial Goa Maritime Symposium was conducted successfully by the Indian Navy at Goa from 31 October to 01 November 2022.
  • The theme for GMS-22 was ‘Maritime Security Challenges in the Indian Ocean Region: Converting Common Maritime Priorities into Collaborative Mitigation Frameworks’.

4. Jamshedpur Steel Plant of Tata Steel becomes India’s first to achieve ResponsibleSteel Certification

  • The three production facilities of Tata Steel in Jamshedpur received ResponsibleSteel Certification.
  • The Company’s Steel Works, Tubes Division and Cold Rolling Mill (Bara) in Jamshedpur have joined an exclusive group of steel producing sites around the world to receive the ResponsibleSteel Certification, which also includes some of the other renowned steel manufacturers in the world.

5. Zaggle and NPCI partner to launch multiple credit cards on RuPay network

  • Zaggle, a SaaS FinTech company, had collaborated with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to issue contactless credit cards on the RuPay network.

  • Export-Import Bank of India (India Exim Bank) has concluded a Master Risk Participation Agreement for supporting trade transactions with FirstRand Bank (FRB) Limited.
  • The agreement was signed in Johannesburg on the sidelines of the India – Southern Africa Regional Conclave.
  • It has been signed under India Exim Bank’s Trade Assistance Programme.

12. UPI transactions grow 7.7 per cent to 730 crore in October 2022

  • UPI = Unified Payments Interface.
  • UPI transactions in India surged 7.7 per cent to 730 crore and the total value stood at more than Rs 12.11 lakh crore in October from 678 crore worth Rs 11.16 lakh crore in September.
  • The number of instant interbank fund transfers through IMPS (Immediate Payment Service) in October stood at 48.25 crore and the value was at Rs 4.66 lakh crore.
  • National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is an umbrella organisation for all retail payments systems in India.

13. India donates USD 2.5 million to support education, healthcare of Palestinian refugees

  • India presented a cheque of USD 2.5 million, the second tranche of the pledged USD 5 million annual support, to a UN agency that will go directly to serve the schools, health centres and other basic services run by the organisation to support Palestinian refugees.
  • India has given USD 22.5 million to the UNRWA since 2018.
  • India has also increased its annual financial contribution fourfold to the UNRWA core budget, from $1.25 million to $5 million.
