1. World mental health day 10 October 2022

  • The day is celebrated to challenge social stigma, lack of understanding and the various issues faced by those suffering from the disease.
  • The day is also celebrated to mark the need for advance awareness and treatment of mental illness.

2. DPIIT holds National Workshop on ‘Ease of Doing Business’

  • Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) conducted a National Workshop on ‘Ease of Doing Business’ in New Delhi.
  • In the workshop, the panellists emphasized on having at least one change agent to initiate the transformation in every State.
  • Also highlighted steps towards developing India as a preferred investment destination.
  • 7 states are ‘top achievers’ in the ‘State Ease of Doing Business’ report by MoCI in June.

3. BSE gets SEBI nod for social stock exchange as separate segment

  • Bombay Stock exchange (BSE) has received in-principle approval from the capital market regulator SEBI for setting up the Social Stock Exchange as a separate segment.
  • SEBI had notified rules for the Social Stock Exchange (SSE) in July this year to provide an impetus to social enterprises with an additional avenue to raise funds.
  • According to reports, India has more than 31 lakh Non-Profit Organisations.

4. World Billiards Championship: Pankaj Advani wins world title number 25 in Kuala Lumpur

  • Indian cueist Pankaj Advani defended his World Billiards Championships (150-up) title for the 5th time, beating compatriot Sourav Kothari in the best-of-7 frames final at the High End Snooker Club in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for a record 25th title at the global level.
  • Pankaj’s last world title came over 12 months ago in Qatar where he won the IBSF Six-Red Snooker World Cup.

5. Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) signs MoU with Testing, Inspection, Certification (TIC) Council

  • The MoU aims to promote and harmonise the implementation of standards and quality, safety and sustainability practices in laboratories.
  • Also aims to improve the responsiveness for laboratories and exchange and disseminate the global best practices in the field of laboratories.

6. Three-member panel to study on SC status for Dalit post conversion

  • The Centre has appointed a three-member commission, headed by former Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan, to consider the possibility of granting SC status to “new persons who have historically belonged to the Scheduled Castes’’ but have converted to religions other than Hinduism, Buddhism and Sikhism.
  • According to the 2011 Census, scheduled castes account for 16.6% of the total population.

7. HDFC Bank launches SmartHub Vyapar Merchant app for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)

  • HDFC Bank announced the launch of SmartHub Vyapar Merchant app, a payments and banking solution for small and medium-sized businesses.
  • The app has been developed in partnership with a merchant Saas platform, Mintoak Innovations India.
  • It enables merchants to accept interoperable payments across multiple payment modes which include Cards, UPI and QR code.

8. Chandrayaan-2 spectrometer maps abundance of sodium on moon for first time

  • Chandrayaan-2 mapped the abundance of sodium on the Moon for the very first time using the Chandrayaan-2 Large Area Soft X-ray Spectrometer (CLASS) on board the orbiter.
  • Built at the UR Rao Satellite Centre of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in Bengaluru, CLASS provides clean signatures of the sodium line thanks to its high sensitivity and performance.

9. DPIIT notifies establishment of Credit Guarantee Scheme for Startups (CGSS)

  • Under CGSS, DPIIT aims at providing credit guarantees to loans extended by Scheduled Commercial Banks, NBFCs and SEBI registered Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs).
  • The exposure to individual cases would be capped at Rs. 10 crore per case or the actual outstanding credit amount, whichever is less.
  • The guarantee under scheme would be transaction based and umbrella based.
  • Startup India Action Plan was launched on 16th January 2016.

10. Central Govt and LIC to divest 60.72% stake in IDBI Bank

  • LIC and Central Govt own close to 94% in IDBI Bank, of which the Centre has 45.48% stake and LIC has 49.24%, as of June 30.
  • As per the plan, the Centre will divest a 30.48% stake while LIC will sell off 30.24%.
  • This would be the first attempt to privatise a public sector bank in India.
  • CCEA agreed to its strategic disinvestment and transfer management control in May 2021.
  • IDBI was constituted as a Dev Fin’l Institute (DFI) in 1964 and later as a Bank in 2004.

  • In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, a first of its kind Bird Festival 2022 was inaugurated at Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

12. Environment ministry sets up Cheetah Task Force

  • The Taskforce was constituted for monitoring Cheetah introduction in Kuno National Park, Madhya Pradesh and other suitable designated areas.
  • The Task Force shall be in-force for a period of two years.
  • Task Force to review progress and monitor the adaption and health status of Cheetahs.

13. RBI launches Concept Note to create awareness about Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC)

  • CBDC is a digital form of currency notes issued by a central bank.
  • CBDC in India will be referred to as e₹ (digital Rupee).
  • It is not much different from banknotes, but being digital it is likely to be easier, faster and cheaper.
  • A central bank digital currency is the digital form of a country’s fiat currency.
  • What is Fiat money?
    • It is a government-issued currency that is not backed by any commodity such as gold or silver.

14. NTPC and GE Gas Power sign MoU to decarbonize power generation

  • In its efforts to adopt advanced powering technology to decarbonize power generation in India, NTPC Ltd., the country’s largest power generating utility, and GE Gas Power signed a MoU for feasibility to demonstrate hydrogen co-firing blended with natural gas in GE’s 9E gas turbines installed at NTPC’s Kawas combined-cycle gas power plant in Gujarat.
  • India has a total Thermal installed capacity of 236.1 GW of which 58.6% from coal.
