1. RBI data shows over 1.18 crore payment devices have been deployed across country till April
- More than 4.11 lakh PoS, mobile PoS and other physical devices were deployed across the country under the Payments Infrastructure Development Fund (PIDF) scheme as on April 30, 2022, the RBI said.
- The PIDF scheme subsidises deployment of Points of Sale infrastructure in tier-3 to tier-6 centres and northeastern states of the country.
2. India to host special ASEAN-India Foreign Ministers’ Meet on June 16-17
- India will host the Special ASEAN-India Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on the 16th and 17th.
- External Affairs Spokesman Arindam Bagchi said, this will be the first meeting hosted by India in New Delhi and it will be accompanied by 12th Edition of Delhi Dialogue.
- The Ministerial Session will be attended by External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and ASEAN’s Ministers.
- He said the theme of the Delhi Dialogue is, Building Bridges in the Indo-Pacific.
3. DBS Bank India and Bajaj Finance launch co-branded credit card
- The Development Bank of Singapore (DBS).
- DBS Bank India has announced the launch of its first-ever credit card in India in partnership with Bajaj Finance Limited.
- The Bajaj Finserv DBS Bank SuperCard, powered by Visa, is designed to de-clutter customers’ wallets, eliminating the need to have multiple credit cards.

4. Axis Bank and Indian Oil launch co-branded RuPay contactless credit card
- Axis Bank and Indian Oil Corp.Ltd. (IOCL) in partnership with National Payments Corp. of India (NPCI), have announced the launch of a co-branded contactless INDIAN OIL AXIS BANK RuPay Credit Card.
- As an onboarding gift, users of this card will be entitled to 100% cashback up to ₹250 on all fuel spent within the first 30 days of issue of the card.
5. Mascot and logo of 44th Chess Olympiad launched by Tamil Nadu CM
- Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin launched the official logo and mascot of the 44th Chess Olympiad.
- The mascot ‘Thambi’ is a knight dressed in the traditional Tamil attire Veshti (Dhoti) with a shirt and is seen with folded hands, apparently extending the Tamil greeting ‘Vanakkam’. The words ”Chess Believe” are seen on its shirt.
6. India’s first rupee-based crypto index CRE8 launched by CoinSwitch
- India’s largest crypto investing app, CoinSwitch, has launched Crypto Rupee Index (CRE8), which is the country’s first benchmark index to measure the performance of the rupee-based crypto market.
- The index is based on real trades on the CoinSwitch app, which has over 18 million registered users.
7. PM Narendra Modi inaugurates & lay foundation stone of multiple development projects in Gujarat
- The Prime Minister participated in a programme named ‘Gujarat Gaurav Abhiyan’.
- During the programme, he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of development initiatives worth about Rs 3050 crores at Khudvel, a tribal region in Navsari.
- This includes the inauguration of 7 projects, foundation stone laying for 12 projects and Bhumi Pujan of 14 projects.
8. SEBI rejigs mutual fund advisory committee
- Markets regulator Sebi has restructured its advisory committee on mutual funds.
- The 25-member advisory committee will be chaired by former Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Usha Thorat, according to the latest update with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).
- Earlier, the panel had 24 members.

9. IMF appoints Krishna Srinivasan as APAC director
- The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has named Indian national Krishna Srinivasan as Director of the Asia Pacific (APAC) department.
- Prior to focusing on Asia Pacific, he was Deputy Director in the Western Hemisphere Department, monitoring the economies of Brazil, Canada, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, and the Caribbean.

10. IISc overtakes IITs to clinch first spot among 41 Indian institutes
- Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru has emerged as the topmost Indian institute, ranking at the 155th spot among 1400 institutes globally, in the QS World University Rankings 2023 released.
- Globally, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) remained at no. 1 spot for a record eleventh consecutive year, while University of Cambridge rose to 2nd place, and Stanford University remained in 3rd.
- IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi, ranked 172 and 174 in the current rankings respectively.
11. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan calls for nurturing students as future entrepreneurs
- A two-day Conference of Vice-Chancellors of Central Universities and Directors of Institutions of National Importance concluded.
- On the second day of the conference, Mr. Nunzio Quacquarelli, Founder and CEO, QS ranking gave a presentation on International rankings of Higher Education Institutions: Indian Universities in QS World University Rankings.
- The President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the conference.

- Former team India cricket captain Virat Kohli became the first Indian to reach 200 million followers on Instagram.
- The 33-year-old is also the most followed cricketer in the world and the third most followed sports person in the world after Cristiano Ronaldo (450M) and Lionel Messi (333M).
13. Under TDF scheme of DRDO, Defence Minister enhances funding to Rs. 50 cr
- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved the enhancement of funding under the Technology Development Fund (TDF) scheme of the Ministry of Defence to Rs 50 crore per project from Rs 10 crore.
- The TDF scheme, executed by DRDO supports the indigenous development of components, products, systems and technologies by MSMEs and start-ups.
14. On cooperation in industries & advanced technologies sector Cabinet Approves MoU between India and UAE
- India-UAE bilateral trade, valued at US$ 180 million (Rs.1373 crore) per annum in the 1970s has increased to US$ 60 billion (Rs.4.57 lakh crore) making the UAE, India’s third-largest trading partner for the year 2019-20 after China and the US.
- India and the UAE signed a bilateral “Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement” (CEPA) on 18/02/2022.
15. Cabinet approves MoU signed between India and USA in health sector
- The MoU has been signed by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of the Republic of India (DBT) and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI), USA to contribute towards the development of new, improved and innovative biomedical tools and technologies to prevent and treat HIV, TB, Covid-19.
