- World Food Day is celebrated every year on October 16 to raise awareness about the importance of food and nutrition.

2. India has slipped six places and ranked 107, out of 121 countries, in 2022 Global Hunger Index (GHI)
- India also ranks below Sri Lanka (64), Nepal (81), Bangladesh (84), and Pakistan (99).
- Afghanistan (109) is the only country in South Asia that performs worse than India on the index.
- India’s child wasting rate of 19.3% is worst in the world; shows improvement in child stunting, child mortality indicators
- With a score of 29.1, India has a level of hunger that is serious.
- GHI is jointly released by Concern Worldwide and Welthungerhilfe every October.
3. Education minister inaugurates IInvenTiv, all-IITs R&D showcase at IIT Delhi
- Education and Skill Development Minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated IInvenTiv – the first-ever all-IITs Research and Development, R&D Showcase at IIT Delhi.
- The two day event which will conclude on October 15, brings academia and industry under one roof to showcase India’s global R&D strength.

4. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launches Maa Bharati Ke Sapoot website for citizens to contribute to martyrs’ families
- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launched a website that will enable citizens to contribute to the Armed Forces Battle Casualties Welfare Fund (AFBCWF), which is a tri-service fund.
- The portal — ‘Maa Bharati Ke Sapoot’ (MBKS) – was launched during a function at the National War Memorial complex in New Delhi.
- The Indian Army, on behalf of the Ministry of Defence, will be maintaining an account for the fund besides online donations.

5. DENV-2, the deadly dengue virus variant that is highly virulent
- DENV-2, a more lethal dengue virus variant, is extremely severe or harmful in its effects and can cause symptoms of severe dengue.
- The DENV-2 variant of dengue has been rapidly spreading in several parts of India for the past few months.
- The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) has declared DENV-2 as a ‘public health emergency’.
- Dengue is a vector-borne disease or viral infection which is transmitted by mosquitoes.
6. All India Conference of Law Ministers and Law Secretaries from October 14-17
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually address the inaugural session of All India Conference of Law Ministers and Law Secretaries on October 15.
- The three-day conference is being hosted by the Ministry of Law and Justice at Ekta Nagar, Gujarat.
- It will provide a platform for the exchange of ideas and an opportunity to various states and union territories to exchange their best practices, which is important to upgrade the overall legal system.
7. Google Cloud gets MeitY nod to partner with public sector firms
- The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has authorised Google Cloud to use cloud technology to address challenging issues for governmental organisations.
- Google is now in a position to collaborate fully with Indian public sector organisations and take an active role in the country’s digital transformation initiatives, particularly Project Meghraj.

8. Govt accords infrastructure status to data centres with over 5 MW capacity
- Data centres that are “housed in a dedicated / centralized building for storage and processing of digital data applications with a minimum capacity of 5 MW of IT load” will be considered eligible for infrastructure status.
- The capacity of data centres is measured in terms of power they consume which reflects on the scale of the server they are hosting in their facilities.

9. Odisha MP Aparajita Sarangi elected Asia Pacific Group’s Inter-Parliamentary Union panel member
- Lok Sabha MP from Odisha Aparajita Sarangi has been elected as a member of the executive committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union from Asia Pacific Group (APG) countries.
- Sarangi bagged 12 out of the total 18 available votes in the election to the post.
- The election was held in Kigali, Rwanda.
- Sarangi will represent India on the 15-member executive committee of the union.

- The Prime Minister also flagged off the inaugural run of the new Vande Bharat Express from Amb Andaura, Una to New Delhi, it will be the fourth Vande Bharat train to be introduced in the country.

11. 15 states among achievers in logistics performance index 2022: DPIIT report
- Andhra Pradesh, Assam and Gujarat are among the 15 states and UTs categorised as achievers in the logistics index chart 2022, according to a report released by the commerce and Industry Ministry.
- Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Puducherry, Sikkim and Tripura are the other states categorised as fast movers in the ranking.
- The index is an indicator of the efficiency of logistical services necessary for promoting exports and economic growth.

12. Indo-US Vaccine Action Programme Joint Statement extended till 2027

14. Amounts received as claims from credit guarantee company to be exempt from CRR, SLR
- The Reserve Bank of India has said the amounts received by them from the National Credit Guarantee Trustee Company Ltd (NCGTC) towards claims invoked and held by them pending adjustment of the same towards the relative advances, need not be treated as outside liabilities for the purpose of computation of deposits for maintaining statutory reserve ratios.
- The statutory reserve ratios are – cash reserve ratio (CRR) and statutory liquidity ratio (SLR)

15. President Droupadi Murmu inaugurates a Supercomputer facility called ‘PARAM KAMRUPA’ at IIT Guwahati
- President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, inaugurated ‘PARAM KAMRUPA’ Supercomputer facility and a high-power active and passive component laboratory of SAMEER at Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati.
- The Param Kamrupa, one of its kind supercomputers in the North East region, installed under the National Supercomputing Mission.
