1.  FIFS appoints Joy Bhattacharjya as the director general

• The Federation of Indian Fantasy Sports (FIFS), the self-regulatory industry body for fantasy sports, announced the appointment of Joy Bhattacharjya as its director-general.
• Bhattacharjya is the CEO of the Prime Volleyball League and is a cricket analyst.
• The Federation of Indian Fantasy Sports (FIFS), was earlier known as the Indian Federation of Sports Gaming( IFSG).

2.  Indian-American Naureen Hassan named President of UBS Americas and CEO of UBS Americas Holding

• Naureen Hassan, an Indian-origin veteran of the financial services sector has been appointed President of UBS Americas and CEO of UBS Americas Holding.
• UBS Group AG is a multinational investment bank and financial services company founded and based in Switzerland.
• Co-headquartered in the cities of Zürich and Basel.

3.  Xiaomi India president Muralikrishnan B is now head of India business

• Chinese smart device maker Xiaomi has promoted its chief operating officer Muralikrishnan B as president to head its India business
• Muralikrishnan has been serving as chief operating officer of the company since 2018.
• He will assume charge as president of Xiaomi India from August 1.

4.  IIT Madras Best Higher Educational Institution overall on NIRF India Rankings 2022

• Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has been ranked as the top educational institution in the country for the fourth consecutive year, according to the India Rankings released by the Union Ministry of Education.
• Bengaluru-based Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has secured the second spot on the ranking, followed by IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi.

5.  Centre receives Rs 23,000 crore proposals under Agriculture Infrastructure Fund

• The Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF) setup in 2020 aims at providing a medium-long term debt financial facility till 2025-26 for investment in viable projects for post-harvest management infrastructure and community farming assets through interest subvention and financial support.
• AIF with a corpus of Rs 1 lakh crore will be disbursed through loan by 2025-26, ministry officials had said earlier.

6.  I2U2: UAE to invest $2 bn to develop integrated food parks across India

• The United Arab Emirates will invest $2 billion to develop a series of integrated food parks across India under the framework of the four-nation grouping ‘I2U2’.
• On the project relating to food parks, the statement said India will provide appropriate land.
• The statement also said the I2U2 group will advance a hybrid renewable energy project in Gujarat consisting of 300 MW.
• The grouping is known as ‘I2U2’ with “I” standing for India and Israel and “U” for US UAE.

7.  Delhi govt, UNICEF join hands to provide job opportunities to students

• Skill Varsity of Delhi joins hands with YuWaah (Generation Unlimited India) at UNICEF to enable access to employment opportunities, assist students in becoming job ready as well as listen to and amplify the voices of young people.
• The DSEU and UNICEF have started offering ‘Career Awareness Sessions’ for students.

8.  Agnikul Cosmos opens India’s first private factory for 3D printing rocket engines

• Agnikul Cosmos, the country’s 1st private factory dedicated to building rocket engines in Chennai, inaugurated by N Chandrasekaran, chairman, Tata Sons, & Somanath, chairman of ISRO & secretary, department of space.
• Srinath Ravichandran, chief executive of Agnikul Cosmos, said that the facility presently has the capacity to build 2 rocket engines from scratch, every week.

9.  India’s NSCS Hosts Meeting Of BIMSTEC

• The National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) Government of India organized a two day Meeting of the BIMSTEC Expert Group on Cyber Security Cooperation on 14-15 July 2022 in New Delhi.
• The Meeting is based on the agreement made during the meeting of the BIMSTEC National Security Chiefs held at Bangkok in March 2019 that the BIMSTEC Expert Group will formulate an Action plan.
• BIMSTEC = Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation.
• BIMSTEC has 7 member countries (Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand).

10.  APEDA signs MoU AAU to conduct trainings programmes on pre- and post-harvest management

• APEDA has signed an MoU with Assam Agriculture University (AAU), Jorhat to conduct various training programmes on pre-harvest and post-harvest management including other research activities for the promotion of export from the region.
• APEDA also organized a conference on the Export Potential of Natural, Organic, and Geographical Indications (GI) Agro Products in Guwahati in June.

• In the annual Satayjit Ray short film category ‘Jaagran’, co-directed by Ritviq Joshi and Hardik Sadhwani, won the LIFF Jury Prize.

12.  Centre extends scheme for Rebate of State and Central Taxes and Levies till March 2024

• The Centre has extended the Scheme for (RoSCTL) till March 2024 to boost exports and job creation in the textile sector.
• The Ministry of Textiles stated that the rates of exports of apparel and garments will continue the same as earlier notified by the Ministry.
• The Scheme helped in improving cost efficiency and export competitiveness in the international market.

13.  Ministry of Women and Child Development issues Detailed Guidelines for ‘Mission Shakti’

• The Government of India has launched ‘Mission Shakti’ – an integrated women empowerment programme as an umbrella scheme for the safety, security and empowerment of women for implementation during the 15th Finance Commission period 202l-22 to 2025-26.
• The norms of ‘Mission Shakti’ will be applicable with effect from 01.04.2022.

14.  Samsung develops world’s fastest graphics DRAM chip

• Samsung has developed a new graphics dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) chip with a faster speed and improved power efficiency.
• The 24-gigabit Graphics Double Data Rate 6 adopts third-generation,10-nanometer technology and boasts a data processing speed that is over 30 percent faster than existing products.
• It processes graphic images at a rate of up to 1.1 terabytes per sec.

15.  Nasscom, Google set up call centre to help rural women entrepreneurs scale up business

• Nasscom Foundation along with Google has set up a call centre in collaboration with a not-for-profit body ISAP to help women farmers scale up their business.
• The project is being run on a pilot basis to initially reach out to 20,000 rural women entrepreneurs across six states Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana and Rajasthan as “DigiVaani Call Center.

16.  NRTI re-named as Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya; Gets nod for becoming a Central University

• The National Road Transport Institute in Gujarat will be upgraded to a central university and will be known as the Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya.
• The cabinet has also approved the setting up of the university.
• The Gati Shakti University will become the second central university in the state following the Central University of Gujarat.

17.  Himachal Governor unveils former Army chief General JJ Singh’s book

• Himachal Pradesh Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar released a book, “The McMahon line: A century of discord”, authored by former Governor of Arunachal Pradesh and former Chief of Army Staff General JJ Singh (Retd).
• The book is based on the former Army chief’s experiences and research on the India-China border dispute.

18.  Maharashtra Governor presents Mother Teresa Memorial Award to Dia Mirza, Afroz Shah

• Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari presented the Mother Teresa Memorial Award for 2021 to actor and UN Goodwill Ambassador for Environment Dia Mirza and ‘UN Champion of the Earth’ awardee Afroz Shah.
• The awards instituted by the Harmony Foundation were presented to Dia Mirza and Afroz Shah in recognition of their outstanding work for the protection of the environment.

19.  EU gives Croatia final approval to adopt euro currency in 2023

• European Union finance ministers have given Croatia the final approval to adopt the euro single currency on January 1, 2023, replacing the Croatian kuna.
• Lithuania was the last EU member to adopt the euro in 2015, and Bulgaria is the next in line to join the eurozone.
• The Balkan country has stated its willingness to adopt it as of January 1, 2024.

20.  NBFCs, HFCs securitisation volumes almost doubled to Rs 33,000 crore in April-June: Report

• Securitisation volumes originated by Non-Banking Financial Companies or NBFCs and Housing Finance Companies or HFCs have almost doubled to around Rs 33,000 crore in the first quarter of the current financial year, a report said.
• The volume of such transactions is expected to cross Rs 1.5 lakh crore in FY23, Icra Ratings said in a report.

21.  Japan awards Ex-PM Shinzo Abe country’s highest order posthumously

• The Japanese government has decided to award former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe with the country’s highest order posthumously.

• The longest-serving PM of Japan will be the fourth former prime minister to receive the decoration under the postwar Constitution.
