1.  The NDA nominates West Bengal governor Jagdeep Dhankhar for the post of Vice President of India

  • West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhakhar is the NDA’s pick to be the next Vice President of India.
  • The electoral college for picking the next vice president, who is also the ex-officio Rajya Sabha chairperson, comprises members of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

2.  RBI and Bank Indonesia Agree to Expand Cooperation in Payment Systems

  • With this MoU, RBI and BI committed to deepen relations between both central banks and strengthen the exchange of information and cooperation in the area of central banking, including payment systems, digital innovation in payments services, and regulatory and supervisory framework for Anti Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism (AML-CFT).

3.  Former Punjab Speaker Nirmal Singh Kahlon Passes Away

  • Senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Nirmal Singh Kahlon passed away Nirmal Singh Kahlon, 79, was known as the backbone of Shiromani Akali Dal and the leader of Fatehgarh Churidan.

4.  The final two teams Zimbabwe and Netherlands qualify for T20 World Cup 2022

  • Tournament hosts Zimbabwe and reigning tournament champions Netherlands continued their undefeated runs at the T20 World Cup Qualifier in Bulawayo, both sides winning their respective semifinal to clinch the final two available berths at the T20 World Cup in Australia this October.
  • This year’s tournament will be the 8th edition of the ICC men’s cricket T20 world cup.

5.  Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya says Over 5 cr people received benefit of e-Sanjeevani Tele-consultation

  • The Health Minister said that more than five crore people received the benefit of e-Sanjeevani Tele-consultation.
  • Patients consult with doctors and specialists on a daily basis using this innovative digital medium to seek health services.
  • The e-Sanjeevani facility has led to massive improvement in access to specialised health services, particularly in rural areas.

6.  Aadhaar face authentication is now with a new mobile app

  • UIDAI has launched a new mobile app named AadhaarFaceRd to perform face authentication through mobile apps from anywhere and at any time.
  • Aadhaar holders’ identities, including their Aadhaar numbers and any demographic or biometric data, can be stored in the Central Identity Data Repository using face authentication.
  • Aadhaar number is a 12-digit random number issued by the UIDAI to residents of India.

7.  Vedanta partners with IIT Madras-incubated startup for AI-enabled safety monitoring at workplaces

  • Vedanta partners IIT Madras incubated start-up for AI based safety technologies.
  • The collaboration is in line with Vedanta’s commitment to zero harm by implementing AI-enabled safety monitoring of workplaces which is a key initiative in its digital transformation roadmap.
  • The module will be implemented to find unsafe acts and conditions under various categories.

8.  IIT Delhi inaugurates new Census Data Workstation

  • The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has inaugurated a new census workstation at the Economics Lab of Department of Humanities and Social Sciences.
  • The Registrar General and Census Commissioner, India, Dr Vivek Joshi inaugurated the Census Data Workstation.
  • The new workstation seeks to facilitate access to census microdata for academicians and researchers.

9.  India’s first e-waste eco park to be established in Holambi Kalan in Delhi

  • Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai announced the government’s plan to develop India’s first e-waste eco park in Holambi Kalan in Delhi.
  • The Delhi environment department stated that every year the capital city produces over two lakh tonnes of e-waste, or about 9.5 percent of the total amount produced in India.
  • Delhi is now the fifth-largest producer of e-waste in India.

10.  Rajeev Misra to step back from top executive role at SoftBank

  • Rajeev Misra, CEO of SB Investment Advisers, which manages SoftBank Vision Fund, known as the banking giant’s investment arm, would be stepping back from his role to run a new outside investment outfit, according to a company memo sent by SoftBank’s founder Masayoshi Son.
  • Misra joined SoftBank in 2014 after a long career in Wall Street.

11.  U.S. House votes for India-specific CAATSA sanctions waiver

  • The US House of Representatives has passed by voice vote a legislative amendment that approves waiver to India against the punitive CAATSA sanctions for its purchase of the S-400 missile defence system from Russia to help deter aggressors like China.
  • In October 2018, India signed a USD 5 billion deal with Russia to buy five units of the S-400 air defence missile system.
  • What is CAATSA?
    • CAATSA is a US law.
    • Full Form: “Countering America’s Adversaries through Sanctions Act”.
    • Under this federal law, the American government can impose sanctions on any country that has “significant transactions with Iran, North Korea or Russia”.
    • The law entails economic & financial penalties for any nation that transacts with Russia on arms.
    • The law has been in force since August 2017.

12.  Govt launches “Jagriti” mascot for empowering consumers and generating awareness towards their rights

  • The Department of Consumer Affairs has launched “Jagriti”, a mascot for empowering consumers and generating awareness towards their rights.
  • Jagriti will be projected as an empowered consumer who is spreading awareness about consumer rights and addressing solutions to the problems faced by the consumers.
  • The mascot shall be shown along with the tagline “Jago Grahak Jago” in media campaigns.

15.  Rajnath Singh launches indigenously built Y- 3023 Dunagiri, Project 17A frigate to strengthen country’s maritime security

  • Y- 3023 Dunagiri, Project 17A frigate was built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders Limited (GRSE) in Kolkata. P17A Frigates are a follow-on class of the P17 (Shivalik Class) Frigates with improved stealth features, advanced weapons and sensors and platform management systems.
  • Seven P17A Frigates are under various stages of construction at Mazagaon Dock Limited (MDL) and GRSE.

16.  Bangladesh ranks highest in gender parity in South Asia: WEF Report

  • Bangladesh has retained its highest ranking in South Asia in terms of gender parity, according to the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) latest Global Gender Gap Report 2022.
  • It is for the eighth time in a row that Bangladesh has retained its top position in South Asia.
  • However, its overall ranking has slipped 6 ranks from 65th in 2021 to 71 in 2022 among 146.

17.  100% Saturation of Grey Water Management in Pappankuzhi Village of Tamil Nadu

  • Owing to the concerted efforts of community members and government officials, a grey water management system has been successfully implemented in Pappankuzhi Village Panchayat in Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu.
  • The initiative is a part of the Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen (SBM-G) Phase II campaign of which greywater management is an integral component.
  • What is Greywater?
    • Greywater is the category of waste water that is not contaminated with faecal matter or urine. This includes used water from bathing, washing dishes, laundry, etc.

  • The website of the Ministry of Home Affairs has been ranked first under the Central Ministries Portal in National e-Governance Service Delivery Assessment.

20.  Kotak Mahindra Bank becomes first to integrate with new Income Tax portal

  • Kotak Mahindra Bank has completed technical integration with the new e-filing portal of the Income Tax department and has become the first private bank to fully integrate with the portal.
  • Its customers can now pay their direct taxes through the e-pay tax tab on the portal using Kotak net banking or by visiting a branch.
