1. Adobe to acquire cloud-based designer platform Figma for $20 billion

  • Adobe announced it will acquire design software firm Figma in a deal worth about $20 billion in cash and stock.
  • Figma, founded in 2012, creates cloud-based design software that allows teams to collaborate in real time.
  • It competes head-to-head with Adobe’s XD program.
  • The company was valued at $10 billion in its last funding round in 2021.

    • Figma is a collaborative web application for interface design, with additional offline features enabled by desktop applications for macOS and Windows.

2. Roger Federer, aged 41, to retire from tennis after this year’s Laver Cup

  • Roger Federer on September 15 announced that he is set to retire from professional tennis after next week’s Laver Cup.
  • The Swiss tennis legend (41) has won 20 Grand Slam titles.
  • Following knee injuries, Federer has not competed since Wimbledon in July 2021.
  • He has won 103 ATP singles titles, the second most of all time after Jimmy Connors.

3. Senior IAS BVR Subrahmanyam appointed as next CMD of ITPO

  • BVR Subrahmanyam has been appointed as the new Chairman & Managing Director of the India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO).
  • The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the appointment.
  • Senior IAS Subrahmanyam has been appointed to the post on a contractual basis for two years.

4. Online portal ‘E-Baal Nidan’ for redressal of grievances against violation of child rights revamped

  • The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has revamped online portal E-Baal Nidan for timeboud redressal of grievances against violation of child rights.
  • The new features include bifurcation of complaints based on the nature of the complaint into their subject matters like Juvenile Justice, POCSO, Labour and Education.
  • POCSO = Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences.

5. Munoth Industries to start making lithium-ion cells at Tirupati unit

  • Chennai-based Munoth Industries Ltd (MIL), promoted by Munoth group, is set to commission what it calls India’s first full-fledged lithium-ion cell manufacturing unit at Electronic Manufacturing Cluster 2 [EMC 2], located at Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh.
  • Presently, India is completely importing lithium-ion cells from China, South Korea, Vietnam, and Hong Kong.

6. Google Completes acquisition of Mandiant to ‘Reinvent Security’

  • Google has announced that its proposed $5.4 billion bid to buy cybersecurity firm Mandiant is now complete.
  • Moving forward, Mandiant will operate under the auspices of Google Cloud, though the Mandiant brand will live on.

7. J&K govt declares Maharaja Hari Singh’s birthday a public holiday

  • The Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to declare Maharaja Hari Singh’s birth anniversary a public holiday.
  • The announcement was made by Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha.
  • Maharaja Hari Singh JI was instrumental in accession of J&K with the republic of India on 26 October in 1947.
  • Maharaja Hari Singh was the last Dogra king.
  • The birth anniversary of the visionary ruler falls on September 23.

8. Delhi Police first force to make collection of forensic evidence mandatory

  • Delhi Police has become the first police force in the country to make collection of forensic evidence mandatory in crimes punishable by more than six years.
  • Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora issued a “standard order” to all police units.
  • The recently released NCRB report showed a 40% increase in crimes against women in Delhi, the highest among all metropolitan cities.

  • India’s top-75 brands are worth $393 billion, Kantar said in its report.

  • The government has constituted an expert committee to examine & suggest measures to address regulatory and other issues to enable scaling up investments by venture capital and private equity investment.

  • The committee will suggest measures to further accelerate investment into start-ups & the sunrise sector.

11. NITI Aayog Celebrates One-Year Anniversary of Shoonya Campaign

  • NITI Aayog today hosted the first Shoonya Forum to commemorate the first anniversary of India’s zero pollution e-mobility campaign in Delhi.
  • On the occasion, more than 25 Shoonya partners announced their commitment and pledged to accelerate India’s clean mobility story with Electric Vehicles to improve air quality for Indian citizens.

  • Indian batter Robin Uthappa announced his retirement from all formats of the game.

  • After playing over 50-plus international games and 205 matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL),The star batter also last played for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2022.

13. JIMEX 2022: India, Japan begin joint naval drills in the Bay of Bengal

  • The Indian Navy is being represented by three indigenously designed and built warships; Sahyadri, a multi-purpose stealth frigate and Anti-Submarine Warfare Corvettes Kadmatt and Kavaratti.

14. Andhra Pradesh tops India in attracting investment, gets Rs 40,361 cr till July

  • According to the Department for Promotion of Industries and Internal Trade (DPIIT) report, both states account for 45 per cent of the entire investment inflow in the country in 2022.
  • Also, India’s actual industrial investment for the first seven months stood at Rs 1,71,285 crore of which Andhra Pradesh topped the list with Rs 40,361 crore followed by Odisha with Rs 36,828.
