1. Pranav Anand becomes India’s 76th Chess Grandmaster
- Bengaluru teenager Pranav Anand became India’s 76th Grandmaster after he crossed the 2,500 Elo mark in the ongoing World Youth Chess Championship in Mamaia, Romania.
- To become a GM, a player has to secure three GM norms and cross the live rating of 2,500 Elo points.
- Dibyendu Barua was the second Indian, after Viswanathan Anand, to achieve the title of chess grandmaster.
- Elo rating is named after its creator Arpad Elo, a Hungarian-American physics professor.
2. Varanasi declared as first-ever SCO Tourism and Cultural Capital for 2022-2023 at Samarkand Summit
- Varanasi has been nominated as the first-ever SCO Tourism and Cultural Capital for the year 2022-2023 at the 22nd Meeting of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit at Uzbekistan’s Samarkand.
- Notably, the regulations for the nomination of the SCO Tourism and Cultural Capital were adopted at the Dushanbe SCO Summit in 2021.

10. FinMin to allow RRBs to raise funds via IPO, rights issue
- The Finance Ministry has issued draft guidelines for Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) to raise resources from the capital market, paving the way for raising funds via rights issue, private placement with select investors such as large banks and insurance companies, and initial public offerings (IPO).
- Currently, there are 43 RRBs sponsored by 12 Scheduled Commercial Banks with 21,892 branches.
11. Fitch cuts India FY23 GDP growth forecast to 7%
- Global ratings agency Fitch cut India’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth forecast for 2022-23 to 7% from the earlier 7.8% due to the impact of the global economic slowdown, elevated inflation and tighter monetary policy.
- Growth is expected to slow to 6.7% in 2023-24 from the previous estimate of 7.4%, the agency said in its latest report.

- When appointed, Sh. Tokhi will be the first woman MD of BPRL.
