1. Jyothi Yarraji becomes first Indian woman to clock sub-13 seconds in 100m hurdle

• Jyothi Yarraji has created history by becoming the first Indian woman to clock a legal sub-13 second time in 100 meter hurdles while smashing her own record at the National Open Athletics Championships in Bengaluru.
• She had won the same event in the National Games in Gandhinagar in a time of 12.79 seconds.
• The 23-year-old Yarraji is representing Railways.

  • She had already owned the meet mark with 13.18 seconds in the heats, bettering the record of 13.38 seconds set by Anuradha Biswal in Chennai 20 years ago.

2. Roger Binny Succeeds Sourav Ganguly As BCCI President

• Roger Binny, former Indian cricket team star and member of the 1983 World Cup-winning team, was named as the 36th president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
• Binny, in his recent stint, was the Karnataka State Cricket Association President and will now leave his position in the state body.

3. Justice D.Y. Chandrachud appointed the 50th Chief Justice of India

• The President of India, Droupadi Murmu has appointed Justice Dhananjaya Yeshwant Chandrachud as the Chief Justice of India with effect from November 9, 2022.
• Justice Chandrachud will take over as the 50th Chief Justice of India after the retirement of the incumbent CJI UU Lalit.
• As the CJI, Justice Chandrachud will have a term of over two years, till November 10, 2024.

  • Before his appointment to the top court, Justice Chandrachud served as the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court from October 31, 2013.

4. India Registered Defence Exports Worth Rs 8,000 Crore In six Months Of FY 2022-23; Aims For Rs 35,000 Crore Target By FY 2025 End

• Gandhinagar is hosting India’s biggest-ever defence exhibition to date – DefExpo 2022.
• This 12th edition of the event has been organised on the theme ‘Path to Pride’.
• “India had achieved exports of defence items and technology worth a record Rs 13,000 crore in 2021-22, which is likely to rise to Rs 17,000 crore in 2022-23”.

5. India hosted SCO National Coordinators Meet

• Close on the heels of SCO RATS (counter-terror) meet in New Delhi, India hosted the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) national coordinators’ meeting on Oct 17-18 in Delhi to give a boost to its Eurasian agenda of inclusive connectivity, trade & effective counter-terror measures.
• This was the first such national coordinator meet under the Indian SCO presidency.

6. Indian Naval Academy conducted Indian Navy Sailing Championship 2022 in Kerala from 18th

• Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala is conducting the Indian Navy Sailing Championship 2022 at Marakkar Watermanship Training Centre in Kerala.
• The Championship is being held from 18 to 21st of this month.
• This mega championship is the largest intra-Navy sailing regatta in which nearly one hundred yacht persons from all three Indian Naval Commands will participate.
• This Sailing Championship is to commemorate Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav and khelo India.

• Sikkim has retained its position as the best-governed small state in India.
