1. Centre forms task force to monitor monkeypox virus situation in the country

  • The Centre has formed a task force in the wake of Monkeypox cases in India to monitor and provide guidance to the government on the expansion of diagnostic facilities and to explore vaccination for the infection in the country.
  • “The team will be headed by Dr. VK Paul, member (Health), NITI Aayog, and members including Secretary, Union Health Ministry, Pharma and Biotech”.

2. Max Verstappen wins the Hungarian Grand Prix from 10th as Mercedes earn double podium again

  • Max Verstappen won the Hungarian Grand Prix after another Ferrari strategy blunder cost Charles Leclerc a probable victory.
  • Verstappen crossed the line 7.8 seconds clear of Lewis Hamilton, following a late surge from the seven-time world champion, with George Russell third.

3. CWG 2022: Achinta Sheuli Smashes Games Record to give India 3rd gold

  • Achinta Sheuli smashed the Games record by lifting a total of 313kg to win the gold medal in the men’s 73 kg category.
  • Sheuli first broke the Games record twice in the Snatch round, lifting 140kg and 143 kg.
  • He then lifted 166 kg and 170 kg in the clean and jerk round to register a Games record for the overall weight.
  • Weightlifter Jeremy Lalrinnunga Won Gold In Men’s 67kg Final.

4. Third edition of Vietnam-India bilateral army exercise “Ex VINBAX 2022” to begin at Chandimandir in Haryana

  • The 3rd Edition of Vietnam-India Bilateral Army Exercise “Ex VINBAX 2022” began at Chandimandir.
  • The exercise is a sequel to previously conducted bilateral exercise in Vietnam in 2019.
  • The theme of Ex VINBAX – 2022 is employment and deployment of an Engineer Company and a Medical Team as part of United Nations Contingent for Peace Keeping Operations.
  • It will continue till 20th August.

5. Earth Rotating Faster: Records shortest day yet again

  • Earth, on July 29, completed one spin in just 1.59 milliseconds, which is less than its usual 24-hour rotation, recording the shortest day.
  • Earlier in 2020, the Earth saw its shortest month that has ever been recorded since the 1960s.
  • On July 19 of that year, the shortest of all time was measured.
  • It was 1.47 milliseconds shorter than a typical 24-hour day.

6. Reliance, Ola, Rajesh Exports sign agreements to Make Batteries in India Under $2.3 Billion Plan

  • Reliance Industries, Softbank Group-backed Ola Electric, and Indian Jewellery maker Rajesh Exports signed final agreements to build battery cells under a $2.3 billion government incentive program.
  • The companies must set up their battery manufacturing facility within two years after which they will be eligible for incentives.

7. Aurangabad smart city first in India to get Google’s environmental insights data

  • The Aurangabad Smart City Development Corporation Limited (ASCDCL) Aurangabad has become the first in the country to witness the official release of the Environmental Insights Explorer (EIE) data from Google.
  • Google has a feature called EIE, which helps cities measure the carbon emission sources, conduct analysis and identify strategies to reduce emissions.

8. DST INSPIRE fellow leads study unveiling the secret of distant dwarf galaxy formation

  • UltraViolet Imaging Telescope onboard AstroSat, India’s 1st dedicated multi-wavelength space observatory, has recently detected faint emission of Far UltraViolet light in the outskirts of a sample of distant Blue Compact Dwarf galaxies that are about 1.5-3.9 billion light-years away.
  • These are small galaxies usually characterized by their centrally concentrated star formation.

9. RBI bans non-card issuers from storing CoF data from Oct. 1

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said with effect from October 1, no entity in the card transaction / payment chain, other than the card issuers and / or card networks, can store CoF (card on file) data, and any such data stored previously must be purged.
  • For handling other post-transaction activities, acquiring banks can continue to store CoF data until January 31, 2023.

10. Geological Survey of India working on 18 lithium projects in 2022-23 across states

  • Khanij Bidesh India Ltd (KABIL), a joint venture of three central public sector enterprises under the Ministry of Mines, has signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding with three state-owned organizations of Argentina, for the purpose of information sharing with respect to prospective mineral acreages of lithium.

11. ED registered maximum money laundering cases during 2021-22 fiscal: Govt

  • In the last 10 years, the Enforcement Directorate registered the highest number of money laundering and foreign exchange violation cases in the 2021-22 financial year – at 1,180 and 5,313 complaints respectively.
  • The PMLA, enacted in 2002, was implemented on July 1, 2005.
  • PMLA = Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
  • FEMA was enacted in 1999 after repealing the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act (FERA) of 1973.

12. Contingent of Royal Army of Oman arrives in India for joint exercise

  • The fourth Edition of India Oman Joint Military Exercise AL NAJAH-IV between contingents of Indian Army and the Royal Army of Oman is scheduled to take place at the Foreign Training Node of Mahajan Field Firing Ranges in Rajasthan.

  • Sanjay Arora is an Indian Police Service officer, 1988 batch, Tamil Nadu cadre Arora has been awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2004, President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2014, Police Special Duty Medal, Antrik Suraksha Padak, and UN Peacekeeping Medal among others.

14. ‘Gilli danda’ among 75 ‘Bharatiya sports’ from different parts of the country Launched under NEP

  • Raja mantri chor sipahi”, “posham pa”, “gilli danda”, “yubi lakpi”, different forms of “kabbadi” and “kanche” are among 75 “Bharatiya games” the Centre has announced it will introduce in schools under the education ministry’s Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) initiative.
  • The initiative was launched by Union home minister Amit Shah on the 2nd anniversary of implementation of National Education Policy (NEP).

15. PM Modi inaugurates 2 big floating solar power projects at NTPC-Kayamkulam

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated two of NTPC’s green projects to the nation NTPC Ramagundam Floating Solar Project (100 MW) in Telangana and NTPC Kayamkulam Floating Solar Project (92 MW) in Kerala.
  • NTPC full form = National Thermal Power Corporation.

16. Uttar Pradesh had the highest share in Centre’s FY22 excise revenue

  • The state of Uttar Pradesh received the biggest share of central government’s revenue collections from excise duty on petroleum products in FY22, followed by Bihar, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh, as per official data.
  • Uttar Pradesh received about ₹6,693 crore last fiscal from the Centre’s excise duty collection which was shared with states as per a formula.
