1. ADB to provide USD 96.3 mn loan to improve water supply, sanitation services in HP
- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of India signed a USD 96.3-million loan agreement to provide safe drinking water and improve water supply and sanitation services in the state of Himachal Pradesh.
- ADB’s involvement in the project will provide water management best practices, strengthen institutional capacity, and guide tariff reform, said Takeo Konishi.
- Takeo Konishi is the Country Director for ADB in India.
2. Govt allows retrofitment of CNG and LPG kits in BS-6 vehicles
- The government has allowed retrofitment of CNG and LPG kits in petrol and diesel vehicles that are compliant with BS-6 emission norms.
- As of now, such modifications are permissible only in vehicles that are compliant with BS-6 emission norms.
- Notification allows CNG and LPG kits on BS (Bharat Stage)-6 gasoline vehicles and replacement of diesel engines with CNG/LPG engines.
3. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar inaugurates Indian Embassy in Paraguay
- External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar jointly inaugurated the new Indian Embassy in Paraguay with his counterpart Julio Cesar Arriola.
- It is also the first Indian Foreign Minister to visit Paraguay, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

5. Debasisa Mohanty appointed director of National Institute of Immunology
- The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Dr. Debasisa Mohanty to the post of Director, National Institute of Immunology, with effect from the date of assumption of charge of the post and up to the age of his superannuation.
- Also, the ministry said Revenue Secretary Tarun Bajaj has been given additional charge as Corporate Affairs secretary.
6. LIC sees 20 pc decline in death claims in Q1 FY23 as COVID impact ebbs
- Insurance behemoth LIC witnessed a decline of nearly 20 per cent in death claims in the first quarter of this fiscal with the COVID impact seen to be ebbing, though the amount is still higher than pre-2020 levels.
- In the June quarter of the previous fiscal, settlement of death claims was to the tune of Rs 7,111 crore, which for Q1 of this year was Rs 5,743 crore.

7. Greece exits EU’s ‘enhanced surveillance’ framework
- Greece has announced that it has exited the European Union’s enhanced surveillance framework.

8. India Adds Over 7 GW of Solar capacity in Jan to Jun 2022 | Mercom India Report
- Solar capacity installations in the country rose by 59 per cent to record 7.2 GW during the first half of 2022, according to Mercom India Research.
- In January-June or H1 of 2021, the country had added 4.5 GW solar capacity, according to the research firm’s ‘Q2 2022 India Solar Market Update’.
9. MP’s Mandla becomes country’s first fully ‘functionally literate’ district
- Madhya Pradesh’s tribal-dominated Mandla region has become the first fully “functionally literate” district in the country.
- A person can be called functionally literate when he or she is able to write his or her own name, to count and read and write in Hindi.
- The literacy rate in the district was 68 per cent as per a survey in 2011.
- As per Census 2011,literacy rate in India is 74.04%, 82.14 for males and 65.46 for female.

10. Vijay Shekhar Sharma to continue as Paytm’s MD & CEO for another 5 yrs
- Vijay Shekhar Sharma has been reappointed managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO) of One 97 Communication (OCL) — the parent company of digital payments app Paytm.
- Around 99.67 per cent of shareholders voted in favour of Sharma’s reappointment.
- Sharma will continue to serve as MD and CEO of the company for another five years, Paytm had said in a statement.

11. Indians remitted $6 bn in Q1FY23 under LRS scheme, shows RBI data
- Outward remittances under the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI’s) liberalised remittance scheme (LRS) made a strong comeback in the first quarter of FY23 as Indians increased spending on international travel, maintenance of close relatives, and gifts.
- International travel contributed $2.92 billion of the $6.04 billion remitted under LRS in Q1FY23, thus constituting almost 48 %
12. Punjab, Haryana agree to name Chandigarh airport after Shaheed Bhagat Singh
- The governments of Punjab and Haryana took a decision to name the Chandigarh International Airport after Shaheed Bhagat Singh.
- The decision was taken during a meeting held between Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Haryana Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala.
- The ₹ 485-crore airport project is a joint venture of the AAI and the governments of Punjab and Haryana.
13. SEBI joins RBI’s Account Aggregator framework to ease access to financial information
- Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI) said it has joined the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI’s) Account Aggregator framework by allowing depositories, asset management companies (AMCs) and mutual fund houses to become financial information providers or FIPs.
- It will give a boost to the Reserve Bank of India-regulated financial-data sharing system.

15. Scotland museum signs deal to return seven ancient artefacts to India
- Seven artefacts, including a stone door jamb stolen from a Hindu temple in Uttar Pradesh, has been transferred back to India by Glasgow’s museums as part of Scotland’s “largest-ever” repatriation of objects from a single collection.
