1. Indian Navy conducts workshop on artificial intelligence in Jamnagar
- The Indian Navy conducted a three-day-long virtual workshop at Indian naval station (INS) Valsura in Jamnagar of Gujarat on leveraging artificial intelligence.
- The workshop, which was conducted under the aegis of southern naval command.
- The Indian Navy is focused on incorporation of artificial intelligence and machine learning in critical mission areas.
2. Legendary Indian Hockey Player Charanjit Singh Dies
- Captain of India’s 1964 Tokyo Olympics gold medal-winning hockey team, Charanjit Singh, died in Una, Himachal Pradesh after suffering a cardiac arrest that followed prolonged age-related illnesses.
- The former midfielder was 90 and would have turned a year older next month.
- Charanjit suffered a stroke five years back and was paralysed since then.
3. Google to invest $1 bn in Bharti Airtel, to buy 1.28% stake for $700 mn
- Google will invest upto $1 billion in Bharti Airtel through a mix of equity investment and commercial partnership in affordable devices.
- This is the tech giant’s second investment in an Indian telecom service provider and reflects its growing focus on India.
- Google holds 7.73% stake in Reliance Jio the two have also partnered to make affordable smartphone JioPhone Next.
4. South maubuang becomes mizoram’s first odf plus village
- The village of South Maubuang in Aibawk block of Aizawl district in Mizoram has been declared a model ODF Plus village.
- ODF = Open Defecation Free.
- The village has fulfilled all the criteria as per SBM-G Phase II guidelines.
5. MoS Culture Meenakashi Lekhi releases pictorial comic book ‘India’s Women Unsung Heroes’
- Minister of State for Culture Meenakashi Lekhi has released the pictorial comic book ‘India’s Women Unsung Heroes’ in New Delhi.
- The book has been prepared by the Culture Ministry in partnership with Amar Chitra Katha.
- The book portrays the tales of valour of our forgotten women freedom fighters.

- Apple has retained the title of the world’s most valuable brand in 2022, with a valuation of a whopping $355.1 billion, according to a report.
- Following Apple, Amazon and Google have been named among the top-three most valuable brands in the year.
- TikTok, on the other hand, has emerged as the world’s fastest-growing brand, with its valuation increasing 215% in 2022.
7. J&K Police Bags Highest 115 Police Medals For Gallantry On January 26
- Jammu and Kashmir Police bagged 115 Police Medals for Gallantry (PMG), out of a total of 189 awarded this year.
- They more than doubled their last year’s tally of 52 PMGs.
- J&K Police won awards for conducting several counter-insurgency operations in 2019-20.
- No one has been given the top category president’s police medal for gallantry (PPMG) this time.

- Hitachi Payment Services, a payment solutions provider, has launched a FinTech platform for India’s microbusinesses and small- to medium-sized businesses (SMBs).
- The objective is to offer a high-quality digital platform for fintech services at affordable prices for the Indian MSME market.
9. India’s first graphene innovation centre to be established in Kerala
- It was recently reported that India’s first innovation centre for graphene will be set up in Kerala by the Digital University Kerala (DUK), along with Centre for Materials for Electronics Technology (C-MET) in Thrissur.
- The investment of the establishment is Rs 86.41 crore (over USD$11.5 million).
- Tata Steel Limited is set to be the industrial partner of the centre.
10. India pays $29.9 million in UN regular budget assessments for 2022
- India has paid USD 29.9 million in UN regular budget assessments for the year 2022.
- As of January 21, 2022, 24 Member States have paid their regular budget assessments in full.
- India is currently a non-permanent member of the 15-nation Security Council and its two-year term will end on December 31, 2022.
11. Pencilton Launches Teen-Focused Debit and Travel Card
- Pencilton, a teen-focused Fintech startup based in India, recently launched Pencil Card.
- It is a debit card that is compliant with National Common Mobility Card standards.
- It has been launched in partnership with Transcorp.
- The National Common Mobility Card was developed by India’s Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs in early 2019.
- It allows the user to pay for travel, toll duties, retail shopping and withdraw money.
12. Sh. Amit Shah launches District Good Governance Index in 20 districts of J-K
- In the composite ranking of the first-ever District Good Governance Index (DGGI) released by Sh. Amit Shah, the Jammu district has managed to top the list followed by districts of Doda, Samba, Pulwama, and Srinagar in the UT.
- The DGGI has been prepared by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) in partnership with the UT’s administration.
13. Russia, Iran & China to Hold Joint Military Exercise In Persian Gulf
- Iran, Russia, & China, began the 2022 Marine Security Belt naval drills in the northern Indian Ocean, as the Chinese Navy sends the destroyer Urumqi to the Gulf of Oman to participate in the CHIRU-2Q22 joint drills.
- The drill, which will be staged in the northern parts of the Indian Ocean, will involve forces from the marine & airborne units of the Iranian Navy.
