1. Inox, PVR announce merger; combined entity to be called PVR Inox Ltd

  • Merger to bring together two of India’s best cinema brands to deliver an unparalleled consumer experience with a network of more than 1,500 screens.
  • Ajay Bijli will be managing director of PVR Inox Limited.
  • Sanjeev Kumar will be executive director and Pavan Kumar Jain will be non-executive chairman of the consolidated board.

  • This year, Jane Campion’s The Power of The Dog has received the most number of nominations.

3. Ex-CAG Vinod Rai appointed as Kalyan Jewellers India chairman

  • Kalyan Jewellers has announced the appointment of former Comptroller and Auditor General of India Vinod Rai as the chairman and independent non-executive director on the company’s board.
  • TS Kalyanaraman will, however, continue as the Managing Director.
  • Rai received the Padma Bhushan, India’s third highest civilian award in 2016.

4. Swiss Open 2022: PV Sindhu wins women’s singles title

  • Double Olympic medallist P.V. Sindhu made light work of Busanan Ongbamrungphan to win the Swiss Open Super 300 badminton tournament in Basel.
  • Sindhu overcame Thailand’s Ongbamrungphan in straight games with a score-line of 21-16, 21-8.
  • This is the 2nd title for PV Sindhu in Basel, where she won her maiden World Championships title in 2019.

5. NMCG Organizes ‘Yamunotsav’ At ITO Yamuna Ghat

  • As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) organized Yamunotsav in association with a group of NGOs at ASITA East River Front, ITO Bridge, to celebrate the glory of Yamuna with a “pledge to keep it clean”.
  • DG, NMCG, Shri G. Asok Kumar urged the people to dedicatedly join hands to clean Yamuna.
  • Yamuna : The biggest and the most important tributary of River Ganga.

6. IBM to impart digital skill to 12,000 girl students in Nagaland schools

  • IBM India has collaborated with the Nagaland school education department to introduce digital training for girl students in more than 250 secondary and higher secondary schools across 15 districts of the north-eastern state.
  • The programme, IBM Stem (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) for Girls, aims to provide 21st century skills to more than 12,000 girls.

7. Sanjay Kumar takes over as New MD of Indraprastha Gas Ltd

  • Sanjay Kumar takes over as Managing Director of Indraprastha Gas Ltd.
  • A Mechanical Engineer from prestigious IIT Kharagpur and an MBA, Mr. Kumar brings to IGL a rich domain experience of over 34 years in Gas sector during his tenure in GAIL (India) Ltd.

8. NIRDPR, ICAI ink pact for development of Accounting/Auditing Standards for Rural Local Bodies

  • National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) for collaboration in the development of Accounting / Auditing Standards for Rural Local Bodies.

9. Gujarat gets India’s first ‘steel road’

  • The Diamond City of India, Surat, has become the first in India to get a road that is made out of steel waste.
  • Built by ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India with CSIR India (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research) & CRRI (Central Road Research Institute) along with the government think tank NITI Aayog, the steel slag road is a stellar example of sustainable development.

10. Delhi government presents Rs 75,800 crore budget; aims to create 20 lakh jobs under ‘Rozgar Budget’ in five years

  • Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia presented a “Rozgar Budget” in the Assembly with an outlay of Rs. 75,800 crore for the financial year 2022-23, focussing on creating 20 lakh jobs in five years by setting up an electronic city and promoting night economy, retail and wholesale markets in the national capital.
  • The budget size for the next financial year is 9.86% higher than that of previous year.

11. Union Agriculture Minister chairs 93rd AGM of Indian Council of Agricultural Research Society

  • The 93rd Annual General Meeting of the ICAR Society was organised at the National Agricultural Science Centre Complex, New Delhi.
  • Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare stated that committed for the betterment of Indian Agriculture, Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has always encouraged the farmers and scientists of the country.

12. NCLT organised Colloquium on “NCLT- The Road Ahead”

  • The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) organised a national level Colloquium on the subject “NCLT- The Road Ahead”.
  • Chief Justice (R) Ramalingam Sudhakar, President, NCLT; Shri Rajesh Verma, Chairman, Indian Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) inaugurated the colloquium.
  • Members of the Tribunal, both Judicial and Technical, represented 15 Benches across India.

13. Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav 2022 inaugurated at Rajamahendravaram in Andhra Pradesh

  • Under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Mega festival, Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav 2022 was inaugurated in Andhra Pradesh by Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan.
  • This Mahotsav will further strengthen our culture and traditions.
  • The Union Ministry of Culture was organising various festivals across the country, which would help in inculcating nationalism among the country.
