1. SpaceX launches ‘Falcon Heavy’ – world’s most powerful rocket on Space Force mission

  • The secretive USSF-44 mission, the first operational national security mission for Falcon Heavy, is being launched by SpaceX’s rocket for the American Space Force.
  • Full form of the USSF is the United States Space Force.
  • The rocket was launched from NASA Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
  • The Space Test Program-2 (STP-2) mission, launched in June 2019, carried experimental satellites on a test flight for the Pentagon.
  • The Falcon Heavy mission was the 1st in more than three years by Elon Musk’s SpaceX.
  • The Falcon Heavy is the tallest and most powerful rocket presently in use.

2. DoT OKs 42 firms for telecom products PLI, incl 17 for design PLI

  • The ministry of communications has expanded the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for telecom and networking products with a total of 42 companies, including 28 medium and small enterprises (MSMEs), cleared for receiving sops for a total investment of Rs 4,115 crore.
  • Samsung, Nokia, Jabil, Rising Star (Foxconn) and Flextronics as well as local players like HFCL, ITI, VVDN and Tejas Networks are among the selected companies under the scheme.
  • A total of 31 companies were given approval on October 14, 2021 for the scheme.

3. SEBI issued guidelines pertaining to standardise usage of rating scales used by credit rating agencies(CRAs)

  • The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) issued a statement pertaining to the standardization of rating scales used by credit rating agencies(CRAs).
  • The circular will come into effect on 1 January 2023.
  • CRAs will then have to report to SEBI their compliance with norms as ratified by their boards of directors within one quarter from date of applicability.
  • What is a Credit rating agency (CRA)?
    • It is also called a ratings service, is a company that assigns credit ratings, which rate a debtor’s ability to pay back debt by making timely principal and interest payments and the likelihood of default.

    • It is the regulatory body for securities and commodity markets in India under the ownership of the Ministry of Finance within the Government of India.

4. Puneeth Rajkumar conferred ‘Karnataka Ratna’ posthumously

  • Karnataka’s highest civilian award the ‘Karnataka Ratna’ was conferred posthumously on late actor Puneeth Rajkumar, on the occasion of the 67th Kannada Rajyotsava (the state formation day).
  • He is the 9th recipient of this prestigious honour.
  • The Karnataka Ratna award consists of a full silver plaque and a 50-gram gold medal.
  • Karnataka Ratna was last given to Dr. Virendra Heggade for social service in 2009.
  • Puneeth’s late father Rajkumar is among the first recipients of the Karnataka Ratna award in 1992, along with noted poet Kuvempu.

6. HDFC ERGO has launched first-of-its-kind satellite index-based Farm Yield Insurance Policy

  • HDFC ERGO on 31 October 2022 has announced the launch of a technology backed farm yield insurance policy for farmers.
  • This is a first-of-its-kind insurance solution, where a satellite-based index will be used to provide localized farm level coverage.
  • It will provide comprehensive cover across the crop life cycle from sowing to harvesting, basis satellite-based data.
  • The product is valid for food, oilseed, commercial or horticulture crops and for the farmers who are under corporate/farm input company (FIC) contracts.

  • The National Asset Reconstruction Co (NARCL) emerged as the winning bidder for the debt of Jaypee Infratech at a Swiss challenge auction after lenders failed to draw counterbids.
  • Phoenix ARC, Aditya Birla ARC and ARCIL were among some of the stressed-asset buyers that submitted expressions of interest for Jaypee Infratech.

9. Scientists say new GM mustard seeds safe for commercial cultivation

  • A locally developed genetically modified (GM) mustard variety, has received Genetic Engineering Appraisal Committee (GEAC), a state-run biotech regulator, recommendation for commercial cultivation.
  • It is the first genetically modified crop in the country to get approval in two decades.
  • GEAC is part of the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

  • Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has inaugurated North India’s first hyper-scale data centre Yotta Yotta D1 of Yotta Infrastructure Solution.
  • Yotta Infrastructure is a new-age digital transformation service provider, at its Greater Noida data centre park.
  • The 3,00,000 square feet data centre was built with an investment of Rs 5,000
  • Yotta Infrastructure is a subsidiary of Mumbai-based Hiranandani Group.

11. UP’s Ranipur tiger reserve becomes 53rd tiger reserve of India, confirms minister Bhupender Yadav

  • Uttar Pradesh’s Ranipur Tiger Reserve has become the 53rd tiger reserve of India.
  • The tiger reserve is spread across over 529.36 sq km, of which the core area is 230.32 sq km and buffer area is 299.05 sq km.
  • Besides this, it is also the fourth tiger reserve in Uttar Pradesh.
  • Apart from Ranipur, the state has three tiger reserves – Dudhwa, Pilibhit and Amangarh.

12. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty win French Open men’s doubles title

  • Star Indian pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeated 25th ranked Lu Ching Yao and Yang Po Han of Chinese Taipei and clinched the French Open Super 750 title.
  • For the Indian duo, The French Open marks their third world tour title after the 2019 Thailand Open and the 2022 Indian Open.
  • Satwik and Chirag have also become the first Indian pair to win a Super 750 tournament.
