1. 4th October 2022: World Animal Welfare Day

  • This day is marked to promote awareness about the rights of animals as well as their welfare.
  • Theme for this year (2022): World Animal Day is a “shared planet” which highlights that the world belongs to every living creature and not just humans.

2. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inducts first indigenously developed light combat helicopters (LCH)

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inducted the first indigenously developed light combat helicopters (LCH) into Indian Air Force at Jodhpur in Rajasthan.
  • The Light Combat Helicopter has been developed by state-run aerospace major Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL).
  • According to the Ministry of Defence, 10 helicopters would be for the IAF and five will be for the Indian Army.

3. Indian-origin, Dr. Vivek Lall receives Lifetime Achievement award in US President

  • Vivek Lall, an Indian-origin General Atomics Global Corporation chief executive, is honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award by US President Joe Biden with the citation of ‘With Grateful Recognition’.
  • He is serving as a US Technical Team Member to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) Science and Technology (STO) with the Pentagon.

    • NATO is an intergovernmental military alliance between 30 member states – 28 European and two North American.

4. Telangana scoops Swachh Survekshan Gramin, 2022 award

  • Telangana won the first prize under the large states category under the Swachh Survekshan Grameen (SSG) 2022 which looks into the sanitation status of rural areas.
  • Haryana secured the second position while Tamil Nadu was third.
  • The awards were presented by President Droupadi Murmu.
  • The Swachh Survekshan Gramin-2022 award is given by the Jal Shakti ministry

5. Suzlon Energy founder Tulsi Tanti passes away due to cardiac arrest, at age 64

  • Suzlon Energy founder Tulsi Tanti, popularly known as India’s ‘wind man’, died of cardiac arrest at 64.
  • One of the pioneers of the wind energy business in India and a globally renowned expert on clean energy, Tanti envisioned the opportunity in the renewable energy industry back in 1995 when the global wind energy market was dominated by international players.

6. YUVA 2.0, PM’s scheme for mentoring young authors launched

  • The Education Ministry launched YUVA 2.0(Young, Upcoming and Versatile Authors) to promote reading, writing, and book culture in the country.
  • In view of the significant impact of the first edition of YUVA with large-scale participation from young and budding authors in 22 different Indian languages and English, YUVA 2.0 has been launched.
  • Theme: “Democracy (institutions, events, people, constitutional values–past, present, future)”.

    • A total of 75 authors will be selected through an All India Contest to be conducted through MyGov portal, from 2 October 2022 to 30 November 2022.
    • Winners will be announced on 28 February 2023.

7. Valley of Words Book Awards: ‘Tagore & Gandhi’ wins in English non-fiction

  • Anees Salim’s The Odd Book of Baby Names (English fiction) and Rudrangshu Mukherjee’s Tagore & Gandhi: Walking Alone, Walking Together (English non-fiction) were among the eight that were adjudged the best books of the year at the ‘Valley of Words Book Awards’.
  • The PFC-VoW Book Awards is considered one of the most comprehensive independent literary awards in India.
  • Hindi fiction was won by Khela written by Neelakshi Singh.

8. Gurugram To Get “World’s Largest Safari”, park to cover over 10,000 acres

  • Haryana will develop the world’s largest jungle safari park in the Aravalli range.
  • The 10,000-acre safari park will cover Gurugram and Nuh districts.
  • At present, Sharjah is home to the largest curated safari park outside Africa.
  • Opened in February 2022, the Sharjah Safari covers an area of about 2,000 acres.

9. MSME ministry organizes SC-ST hub conclave in Gujarat

  • The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises organized a National SC-ST Hub Conclave at Ahmedabad, Gujarat on 28th September 2022 to spread awareness about the National SC-ST Hub (NSSH) Scheme and other Schemes of the Ministry.
  • NSSH is aimed at capacity enhancement and promoting entrepreneurship culture amongst the SC-ST population for enhancing their participation.

10. CBI launches ‘Operation Garuda’ against illicit drug trafficking

  • The Central Bureau of Investigation has launched a multi-phase ‘Operation Garuda’ against illicit drug trafficking network, registering 127 new cases, arresting 175 people and seizing huge quantities of narcotic drugs.
  • The operation seeks to target drug networks with international footprints for action against handlers, operatives, production zones and support elements.

11. Mastercard to launch ‘carbon calculator’ for Indian consumers

  • Global payments and technology company Mastercard is in talks with Indian banks to roll out its Carbon Calculator feature, which offers consumers an estimated carbon footprint for each of their purchases.
  • Mastercard Carbon Calculator, developed in collaboration with Swedish fintech Doconomy, is currently used in over 25 countries.

12. Kerala’s Pullampara is India’s first fully digital literate panchayat

  • Pullampara became the first grama panchayat in the country to attain full digital literacy among its residents.
  • The ‘Digi Pullampara’ project was launched on August 15, 2021 to impart digital education to the most underprivileged sections of society in the panchayat.

13. PM Narendra Modi launches 5G services in India

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the 5G services.
  • 5G technology will provide seamless coverage, high data rate, low latency, and highly reliable communication.
  • It will also increase energy efficiency, spectrum efficiency and network efficiency.
  • The applications of 5G will be in sectors with high digital technology maturity, like Industry 4.0, Smart Cities, and Fintech.

14. Putin announces Russian annexation of four Ukrainian regions

  • Russian President Vladimir Putin signed treaties to begin the process of incorporating four Russian-controlled regions of Ukraine into the Russian Federation.
  • The territories are Luhansk and Donetsk in the east, and Kherson and Zaporizhzhia in the South.
  • In the referendums held in the four regions, which are largely or partly occupied by Russian or Russian-backed forces.

15. India’s unemployment rate drops to 6.43 per cent in September: CMIE

  • India’s unemployment rate dropped drastically to 6.43 per cent in September on the back of increase in labour participation in the rural and urban areas, data released by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE).

16. GST collection in September surpasses Rs 1.4 lakh crore for straight seventh time

  • The gross GST revenue collected in the month of September 2022 is ₹ 1,47,686 crore of which CGST is ₹ 25,271 crore, SGST is ₹ 31,813 crore, IGST is ₹ 80,464crore and Cess is ₹ 10,137 crore (including ₹ 856 crore collected on import of goods).
  • The revenues for the month of September 2022 are 26% higher than the GST revenue collected in the same year last year.

17. Adani Ports, 12 other entities sign non-disclosure agreement to access data on Unified Logistics Interface Platform

  • Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP) was part of the ‘National Logistics Policy (NLP)’.
  • It is an initiative for the logistics sector that aims to bring ease of doing business in the logistics sector by simplifying the logistics processes, improving its efficiency, bringing in transparency and visibility, and reducing logistics cost & time.

18. Lalit Bhasin elected new President of Indo-American Chambers of Commerce

  • The Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC) has appointed eminent lawyer Lalit Bhasin as its national president.
  • Before being elected as the National President of the IACC, Bhasin was the executive vice president of the chamber.
  • Bhasin is the 54th National President of IACC, which was set up in October 1968. Headquartered in Mumbai.
