1. UP: Bhartaul becomes first village in state to have RO water in every household

  • As part of the Adarsh Gram Panchayat initiative, Bhartaul village in Bareilly district has become the first village in the state to have RO water in every household.
  • The village is already established under ‘Adarsh Gram Panchayat’.
  • Four ROs plants have been installed to provide clean water to all.
  • More plants will be set up.
  • It will save people from water-borne diseases.
  • What is RO water filtering?
    • Reverse Osmosis (RO) is a water purification technology used to filter out large particles and unwanted molecules such as contaminants and sediments like salt, dirt, and chlorine from drinking water.

2. Barack Obama wins Emmy award for his narration in Netflix documentary

  • The former President of the United States Barack Obama won an Emmy Award on Saturday for his narration in the Netflix documentary “Our Great National Parks”.
  • Obama already has two Grammys and is now halfway to an EGOT.
  • Dwight D Eisenhower was the first US President to win an Emmy Award.

3. Book on divorce laws launched

  • The book ‘Divorce and Democracy: A History of Personal Law in Post-Independence India’ talks about family law, religion, and gender politics in India.
  • Written by Saumya Saxena, British Academy Fellow at the faculty of History, University of Cambridge, the book talks about the Indian state’s difficult dialogue with divorce, which reconciles largely through religion.

4. Cyber security exercise ‘Synergy’: CERT-In conducts it for 13 countries in collaboration with CSA Singapore

  • Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) under Ministry of Electronics & IT, Government of India, in collaboration with Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA), successfully designed & conducted the cybersecurity exercise ‘Synergy’ for 13 countries as part of the International Counter Ransomware Initiative- Resilience Working Group.

  • Half of health care facilities worldwide lack basic hygiene services with water & soap or alcohol-based hand rubs where patients receive care and at toilets in these facilities,according to the latest Joint Monitoring Programme(JMP) report by WHO & UNICEF.
  • In the Least Developed Countries, only 53% of health care facilities have access on-premises to protected water sources.

  • India has surpassed the United Kingdom to become the world’s 5th biggest economy.
  • In a tweet, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, the International Monetary Fund’s own forecasts show India overtaking the UK in terms on an annual basis this year.

8. Starbucks picks Laxman Narasimhan as next CEO with $1.3-million annual package

  • Global coffee giant Starbucks has named Indian-origin Laxman Narasimhan as its next chief executive officer, replacing Howard Schultz, who will continue as the company’s interim chief until April 2023.
  • Mr Narasimhan joined Reckitt in September 2019 and was the first external candidate to take the helm at Reckitt since it was formed in 1999.

  • This is the first time in the history of the Federation that a former player has become its President.

  • He will also attend the India-US Strategic Partnership Forum conference during his US trip, from September 5 to 10.
