1. Cyrus Mistry, 54, former Tata Group chairman, passes away

  • Former Tata Group chairman Cyrus Mistry died in a road accident on September 4.
  • Mistry was the chairman of Tata Group from 2012 to 2016.
  • He had taken over as chairman in December post-Ratan Tata’s retirement.

2. S Jaishankar launches Gujarati translation of his book “The India Way: Strategies for an Uncertain World”

  • External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar launched the Gujarati translation of his book, “The India Way: Strategies for an Uncertain World” in Gujarat.
  • Prior to this, he visited the Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geo-informatics (BISAG-N) in Gandhinagar.

3. India may surpass Germany, Japan by 2029 to become world’s 3rd largest economy: SBI report

  • The SBI’s Economic Research Department predicted that India would surpass Germany in 2027 and most likely Japan by 2029 at the current rate of growth and become the world’s 3rd largest economy – a movement of 7 places upwards since 2014 when India was ranked 10th.
  • For Q1 FY 2022-23, India registered GDP growth at 13.5%.

4. UIDAI tops in Grievance Redressal Index during August 2022

  • The Unique Identification Authority of India has topped amongst all Ministries / Departments for resolving Public Grievances in the ranking report published by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances for the month of August 2022.
  • UIDAI has been a top performer in resolution of cases received through the Centralised Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System.

5. Ravi Capoor relieved of duties as Sansad TV CEO; Utpal Singh to take charge

  • Rajya Sabha Chairman VP Jagdeep Dhankhar and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla jointly decided that Utpal Kumar Singh, currently holding the post of Secretary General Lok Sabha, will additionally discharge the functions of CEO Sansad TV.
  • Sansad TV was launched in September 2021 after merging the Lok Sabha TV and Rajya Sabha TV channels.

    • Sansad TV is an Indian government television channel.
    • The channel broadcasts the programming of the two Houses of Indian Parliament and other public affairs programming.

6. SEBI rejigs panel on cyber security; expands to 6 members

  • SEBI has restructured its high-level panel on cyber security that suggests measures to safeguard the capital markets from such attacks.
  • SEBI = Securities and Exchange Board of India.
  • The committee, which now has six members, will be chaired by Navin Kumar Singh, DG at National Critical Information Infrastructure Protection Centre (NCIIPC).
  • Madhabi Puri Buch, chairperson of SEBI, was first chair of this committee.

7. First Homoeopathy International Health Summit held in Dubai

  • The summit aimed to educate and promote a homoeopathic system of medicine, drugs, and practices.
  • The summit was organised by Burnett Homoeopathy Pvt Limited which deals with homoeopathic dilutions, mother tincture, lower trituration tablets, proprietary medicines such as drops, syrups, skincare, haircare, and various other homoeopathic medicines.

8. IIT Madras partners with Inspire Institute of Sports to develop advanced boxing analytics software

  • Indian Institute of Technology Madras researchers along with Inspire Institute of Sports (IIS) in Bellary, Karnataka, are developing a cost-effective boxing analytics platform ‘Smartboxer’ to increase India’s boxing medal tally at the 2024 Olympics.
  • The research involves using IoT-based sensors and video cameras to provide analytics about player performance.

9. DST to set up India’s first-ever “Night Sky Sanctuary” in Ladakh

  • In a unique and first-of-its-kind initiative, the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Govt of India, has undertaken to set up India’s first-ever “Night Sky Sanctuary” in Ladakh as a part of Changthang Wildlife Sanctuary.
  • It will boost Astro tourism in India and will be one of the world’s highest-located sites for optical, infra-red, and gamma-ray telescopes.

10. First Ever Visit by Indian Defence Minister to strategic East Asian Country

  • The upcoming visit by Raksha Mantri is the first ever visit by an Indian Defence Minister to Mongolia and will further consolidate the defence cooperation and strategic partnership between the two countries.
  • The two democracies have a common interest infostering peace and prosperity in the entire region.

11. Government of India approves year-long commemoration of the “Hyderabad Liberation Day”

  • The Ministry of Culture will organize the inaugural programme of the year-long commemoration of the Hyderabad Liberation Day, on 17th September 2022.
  • The Government of India has approved the yearlong commemoration of the “Hyderabad Liberation Day” for the period 17th September, 2022 to 17th September, 2023.
  • Maharashtra and Karnataka officially observe September 17 as the Liberation Day.

12. Home Minister Shri Amit Shah launched 36th National Games Anthem and mascot tomorrow in Ahmedabad

  • The curtain raiser event of 36th National Games was held at the EKA Arena TransStadia in Ahmedabad.
  • The 36th National Games, whose theme is Celebrating Unity Through Sports, are being held after a gap of seven years and will take place from September 29 to October 12.
  • The Games were last held in Kerala in 2015.

13. The JCB Prize for Literature longlist features six translations

  • In its fifth year, the JCB Prize for Literature has released its longlist for 2022.
  • One of the most prestigious prizes for contemporary fiction, it features six translations, with Hindi, Urdu and Nepali on the list for the first time, alongside Bengali and Malayalam.
  • More About JCB Prize:
    • It is an Indian literary award established in 2018.
    • It is awarded annually with ₹2,50k prize to a distinguished work of fiction by an Indian author working in English or translated fiction by an Indian writer.
