1. 4th food safety index: Tamil Nadu gets the top position
- Tamil Nadu topped the State Food Safety Index (SFSI) this year, followed by Gujarat and Maharashtra.
- Among the smaller States, Goa stood first, followed by Manipur and Sikkim.
- Among the Union Territories, Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi and Chandigarh secured the first, second and third ranks.
- The rating is done by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
2. SBI’s new MD Alok Kumar Choudhary, for 2 years
- The centre has appointed Alok Kumar Choudhary as State Bank of India (SBI) managing director for a period of two years.
- Choudhary, who was deputy managing director (finance) until this appointment, had started his career at SBI as a probationary officer.
- He would hold the position of MD till his superannuation on June 30, 2024.
3. PM Modi to inaugurate Biotech Startup Expo – 2022 in New Delhi on 9 June.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Biotech Startup Expo – 2022 at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi and address the gathering.
- It is being organised by the Department of Biotechnology and Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC).
- The theme of the Expo is ‘Biotech Startup Innovations: Towards Atma Nirbhar Bharat’.
4. The first Indian Railways officer Shreyas G. Hosur to complete the gruelling ‘Ironman’ Triathlon
- Creating a history of sorts, Shreyas G. Hosur, became the first officer from the Indian Railways to complete the gruelling ‘Ironman’ Triathlon, considered to be the toughest single-day sports event in the world.
- This event includes 3.8 km of swimming, 180 km of cycling and 42.2 km of running.
- He completed the event in 13 hours and 26 minutes in Hamburg, Germany.
5. Sony ex-CEO Nobuyuki Idei, at 84
- Nobuyuki Idei, who led Japan’s Sony from 1998 through 2005, steering its growth in the digital and entertainment businesses, has died.
- He was 84.
- During his seven years as CEO from 1998, Mr Idei made an immense contribution to Sony’s evolution as a global company.
- Tokyo-based Sony is among Japan’s stellar brands, having brought the world the Walkman portable music player.
6. Israel with UAE signs first Arab free trade agreement
- Israel has signed a free trade agreement with the United Arab Emirates, its first big trade accord with an Arab state and a move aimed at boosting trade between the two Middle Eastern nations.
- The trade agreement defined tax rates, imports and intellectual property, which would encourage more Israeli companies to set up offices in the UAE.
7. Govt revises premium to 436 for flagship insurance schemes PMJJBY, PMSBY
- The government has revised the premium rates of its two flagship social security schemes, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) & Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY).
- Premium rates for PMJJBY have been revised to 436 from the earlier premium of 330 rupees per annum.
- For the PMSBY, the revised premium will be 20 rupees instead of the existing 12 rupees per annum.
8. Defence Minister inaugurates 3 day 39th Commanders Conference of ICG
- Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the three-day 39th Commanders’ Conference of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) in New Delhi.
- The event was marked by the presence of Defence Secretary Dr Ajay Kumar, DG ICG VS Pathania and other senior officials of the Ministry of Defence and the ICG.
- Virender Singh Pathania, is the current Director General of the Indian Coast Guard.
9. PM Modi launches new series of coins with Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav design
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a special series of coins that are also ‘visually impaired friendly’.
- The coins of Re 1, 2, 5, 10 and 20 denominations will have the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) design.
- They are not commemorative coins and will be part of circulation.
- AKAM, an initiative of Govt of India to celebrate & commemorate 75 years of Independence.
10. PM Modi launches Jan Samarth Portal for credit-linked govt schemes
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the national portal for credit-linked government schemes – Jan Samarth Portal.
- The Prime Minister participated in the ‘Iconic Week Celebrations’ of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Corporate Affairs at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
- The week (June 6-11) is being celebrated as part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’.
- Jan Samarth Portal is a one-stop digital portal linking government credit schemes.
11. India beat Poland 6-4 in final to clinch inaugural FIH Hockey 5s championship
- India beat Poland 6-4 in the final to clinch the inaugural FIH Hockey 5s championship in Lausanne in Switzerland.
- India ended their campaign with an unbeaten record.
- Earlier, India first outplayed Malaysia 7-3, pumping in four goals in the second half in a stunning show before beating Poland 6-2 in the second match of the day.
12. President Kovind inaugurates Sant Kabir Academy and Research Centre in UP
- The President Ram Nath Kovind paid tributes to Sant Kabir and inaugurated Sant Kabir Academy and Research Centre and Swadesh Darshan Yojana on June 5, 2022) at Kabir Chaura Dham, Maghar, Uttar Pradesh.
- He described Kabir’s life as an ideal example of communal solidarity.

13. Blue Duke is now the State Butterfly of Sikkim
- Chief Minister P.S. Golay, during the World Environment Day celebrations, declared Blue Duke as the State Butterfly of Sikkim.
- Blue Duke, a native butterfly species of Sikkim, edged past another contender Krishna Peacock to be announced as the State Butterfly of Sikkim.
14. Bajram Begaj elected as Albania’s new president
- Albanian lawmakers elected Bajram Begaj, who held the post of the Chief of General Staff of the Albanian Armed Forces (AAF), as the new president of Albania, with 78 votes in favor, four against and one abstained at a parliament session.

15. CCI approves acquisition of shareholding in Hitachi Construction Machinery Co., Ltd.
- The Competition Commission of India (CCI) approves acquisition of shareholding of 26% in Hitachi Construction Machinery Co., Ltd. by HCJI Holdings G.K., Citrus Investments, HCJ Holdings 2 G.K., Japan Industrial V – GP K.K., and other investors from Hitachi Ltd on a fully diluted basis.

- RBL through a joint venture arrangement with Plastic Legno SPA will acquire a 40% stake in the latter’s toy manufacturing business in India.
- Plastic Legno SPA is owned by the Sunino group that boasts more than 25 years of toy production experience in Europe.
- Reliance Brands already has a strong presence in the Indian toy industry with its portfolio of Hamleys.
