1. PM announces development and upgradation of 14,500 schools across country under PM-SHRI Yojana

  • Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, on Monday, announced development and upgrade of 14,500 schools across India under the Pradhan Mantri Schools For Rising India (PM-SHRI) Yojana.
  • The schools will be upgraded with state-of-the-art laboratories, smart classrooms, libraries, and sports equipment.
  • The upgrade was announced on the occasion of Teacher’s Day.
  • The PM-SHRI schools will have a modern, transformational and holistic method of imparting education.

2. Binesh Kumar Tyagi takes over as CMD Shipping Corporation of India (SCI)

  • Shipping Corporation of India on Monday said Binesh Kumar Tyagi has taken over as its Chairman and Managing Director (CMD).
  • Tyagi was heading the Liner and Passenger Services Division as Director (L&PS) since January 7, 2021 in the company, the PSU said in a regulatory filing.
  • Under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, SCI is the largest shipping company in India.

3. IndusInd Bank, ADB partner for Rs560 crore deal to support supply chain financing

  • IndusInd Bank has announced a strategic partnership with Asian Development Bank (ADB) to support and promote Supply Chain Finance (SCF) solutions in India.
  • The Bank has entered into a partial guarantee programme with ADB with an initial outlay of USD 70 million (Rs560 crore), exclusively towards promoting Supply Chain Finance solutions in India.

4. India’s external debt rises by 8.2 pc to over USD 620 bn till Mar 2022

  • India’s external debt grew by 8.2 per cent to over 620 billion US dollar at the end of March this year.
  • The Union Finance Ministry’s Department of economic Affairs has released the 28th edition of the Status Report on India’s External Debt 2021-22.
  • According to it, India’s external debt was over 573 billion dollars at the end of March, last year.

5. Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister lead official delegation to attend Gastech Milan-2022

  • Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri will lead a delegation to Milan, Italy to attend the Gastech Milan-2022.
  • Gastech, the World’s largest gathering focussed on LNG as an abated bridge fuel will bring together leading Ministers and CEOs to discuss the evolving energy landscape, assess post-pandemic economic recovery and navigate a route energy transition.

6. Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat top states in implementing Poshan Abhiyaan scheme: NITI Aayog

  • Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat have been ranked as the top three states among larger states in terms of the overall implementation of the Centre’s flagship Poshan Abhiyaan, according to a Niti Aayog report.
  • Sikkim was the best performer among the small states.
  • The report was titled ‘Preserving Progress on Nutrition in India: Poshan Abhiyan in Pandemic Times’.
  • What is POSHAN Abhiyaan?
    • Full form = Prime Minister’s Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nourishment.
    • It was launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister on 8th March, 2018 in Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan.
    • The focus of Abhiyaan is to lay emphasis on nutritional status of adolescent girls, pregnant women, lactating mothers and children from 0-6 years age.
  • Aim of POSHAN Abhiyaan:
    • Prevent and reduce Stunting in children (0- 6 years)
    • Prevent and reduce under-nutrition (underweight prevalence) in children (0-6 years).
    • Reduce the prevalence of anemia among young Children(6-59 months).
    • Reduce the prevalence of anemia among Women and Adolescent Girls in the age group of 15-49 years.
    • Reduce Low Birth Weight (LBW).

7. ISRO successfully demonstrates Inflatable Aerodynamic Decelerator (IAD) technology to land payloads on Mars, Venus

  • An IAD developed by VSSC, has been successfully test flown in a Rohini sounding rocket from TERLS,Thumba, Kerala.
  • TERLS = Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station.
  • The IAD has systematically reduced the velocity of the payload through aerodynamic drag and followed the predicted trajectory.
  • The IAD has huge potential in a variety of space applications like recovery of spent stages of rocket, for landing payloads on to Mars or Venus.

9. Union Minister Amit Shah chairs the 30th Southern Zonal Council meeting in Thiruvananthapuram resolves 9 issues

  • The Union Minister for Home and Cooperation, Amit Shah, chaired the 30th Southern Zonal Council meeting in Thiruvananthapuram.
  • The meeting was attended by the Chief Ministers of Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, the Lieutenant Governors of Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Administrator of Lakshadweep, Chief Secretaries of Southern Zonal Council States, Union Home Secretary, Secretary Inter-State Council Secretariat and other Senior officials of State and Central Ministries and Departments.

10. NGT slaps Rs 3,500 cr penalty on WB govt for huge gap in waste management

  • The National Green Tribunal has imposed a penalty of Rs 3,500 crore on the West Bengal government for the huge gap in solid and liquid waste generation and treatment.
  • NGT Chairperson Justice AK Goel said it is the constitutional responsibility of the state and the local bodies to provide a pollution free environment.
  • New Delhi is the Principal seat of the Sitting of the Tribunal.

11. Blue Energy Motors opens India’s first LNG fueled green truck Manufacturing Plant

  • Blue Energy Motors inaugurated India’s first Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) fuelled green truck manufacturing plant at Chakan, Pune.
  • The facility was inaugurated by Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways.
  • The company has signed an agreement with FPT Industrial, the global powertrain brand of Iveco Group, Italy to introduce the first LNG trucks.

12. POSCO and Greenko Collaborate to produce green hydrogen, ammonia in India

  • South Korean steel-maker POSCO signed a MoU with ZeroC, a subsidiary of renewable energy company Greenko to make green hydrogen, and to jointly pursue opportunities in renewables, and other derivatives of green hydrogen.
  • Green ammonia is used to store energy and in fertilizer manufacturing.
  • India has set a target to produce 5 million tonnes (mt) of green hydrogen by 2030.

13. PM Modi flags off Industrialisation And Mechanisation Projects Worth Rs 3800 Crores in Mangaluru

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of mechanisation and industrialisation projects worth around Rs 3,800 crores in Mangaluru.
  • PM Modi inaugurated the project worth over Rs 280 crore for mechanisation of Berth No.14 for handling containers and other cargo, undertaken by the New Mangalore Port Authority.

14. Karnataka govt launches Global Startup Challenge ‘VentuRISE’

  • The Karnataka government on Thursday launched the Global Startup Challenge – “VentuRISE” to recognise, reward, and support growth stage startups in manufacturing and sustainability-related sectors.
  • “VentuRISE” – is a part of the flagship event Global Investors Meet – “Invest Karnataka 2022” from November 2 to 4 at the Bangalore Palace.
