1. World Cotton Day 7 October 2022
- The Day is celebrated across the globe through events that disseminate knowledge and give assistance to cotton farmers, processors, researchers and all other stakeholders about production and marketing.

2. Sh. Amit Shah laid foundation stone of 240 projects worth Rs 2,000 crore in Srinagar
- Amit Shah said that the expressway from Nangal to Baramulla & from Baramulla to Uri has been built at a cost of Rs. 850 cr.
- A 43-km road has been built connecting Baramulla to Gulmarg at a cost of Rs. 85 cr to help tourists travelling from Gulmarg to Baramulla.
- He said that over one lakh families are being brought under the ambit of education through a scheme of Rs. 847 cr.

- American chemist Karl Barry Sharpless, who shares the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2022 with Carolyn R. Bertozzi, also from the US, and Denmark’s Morten Meldal, is a two-time winner.
- They won this year’s Nobel for laying the basis of “click chemistry”.
- Click chemistry is a functional form of chemistry used in mapping DNA and developing pharmaceuticals.
7. Sanjeev Kishore takes over as director general ordnance
- Sanjeev Kishore, a 1985 batch officer of the Indian Ordnance Factory Service, has taken over as the director general ordnance (C&S), Ministry of Defence said in a statement.
- Kishore assumed charge of the new role on 1 October, 2022.
- He replaced M K Garg.
- Before taking over the charge of DGO, Kishore was the additional director general ordnance at the Directorate of Ordnance
8. Pune IITM scientist Roxy Koll receives 2022 Devendra Lal Memorial Medal
- Roxy Mathew Koll, a scientist at the Pune-based Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), received the American Geophysical Union’s (AGU) 2022 Devendra Lal Memorial Medal.
- Koll was selected for his outstanding research in Earth and space sciences.
- He will also be conferred as a Fellow of the AGU.
- The medal is named in honour of professor Devendra Lal, a distinguished geophysicist.

9. Uttar Pradesh government forms state’s first all-woman PAC battalions
- The Uttar Pradesh government announced the formation of the state’s first three all-woman battalions of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC).
- Also, women’s help desks were set up at all 1,584 police stations of the state by appointing women beat constables.
- The battalion has been named after Veer Naris.

10. Sandeep Kumar Gupta takes charge as CMD of GAIL
- State-run GAIL said that Sandeep Kumar Gupta has assumed the charge of Chairman and Managing Director of the country’s largest gas utility.
- Before joining GAIL, he held the position of Director (Finance), from August 2019, on the Board of Indian Oil Corporation.
- Gail owns and operates a diversified business portfolio including over 14,500 km of natural gas pipeline network.

11. Adani Green commissions world’s largest wind-solar hybrid plant in India
- Adani Green Energy Ltd said it has commissioned the world’s largest wind-solar power plant of 600 MW capacity in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.
- The plant has a power purchase agreement with Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) at Rs 2.69/kwh for 25 years, a company statement said.
- The project consists of 600 MW solar and 150 MW wind plants.

15. SIDBI–D&B SPeX, India’s 1st Sustainability Index dedicated to MSMEs launched

- The index will be presented as a quantitative measurement for policy makers and enablers to nudge businesses towards adopting an ESG framework in their business strategy over the coming years.

16. Govt approves ₹26,000 crore to install 25,000 mobile towers on 3-day Digital India Conference of State IT Ministers
- The government has approved ₹26,000 crore for installation of 25,000 mobile towers in 500 days.
- The financial support for the project will be provided by Universal Services Obligation Fund and will be implemented by Bharat Broadband Network.
- It was announced at the recently concluded ‘Digital India Conference of State IT Ministers’ in New Delhi.
17. Trade and Development Report 2022: UNCTAD
- UNCTAD projects that world economic growth will slow to 2.5% in 2022 and drop to 2.2% in 2023.
- The global slowdown would leave real GDP still below its pre-pandemic trend, costing the world more than $17 trillion – close to 20% of the world’s income.
- The average growth rate for developing economies is projected to drop below 3%.
