1. Chief Justice UU Lalit names Justice Chandrachud, most senior judge, as successor

  • Chief Justice of India Uday Umesh Lalit has written to the Union Government recommending the name of Justice Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud, the second senior judge of the Supreme Court, as the next Chief Justice of India.
  • Justice Chandrachud’s father Justice YV Chandrachud was the 16th Chief Justice of India.

    • The oath-taking for the next CJI will take place on November 9.
    • CJI Lalit is serving a tenure of under three months in office.
    • Justice Chandrachud will be in office for two years — until November 10, 2024.

2. Mohammed Rizwan and Harmanpreet Kaur seal ICC Player of the Month crowns for September

  • Pakistan ace Mohammad Rizwan claims the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award, while India’s inspirational captain Harmanpreet Kaur is named the recipient of the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award.
  • Harmanpreet Kaur becomes India’s first winner of the ICC Women’s Player of the Month thanks to her leading role in her team’s first ODI series victory in England since 1999.

3. BSE SME hits a milestone of 400 Listed Companies

  • Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal attends the Listing Celebration of 400th company in BSE.
  • BSE = Bombay Stock Exchange.
  • BSE SME announced the listing of eight companies on its platform.
  • This brings the total number of companies listed to 402, crossing a market capitalization of Rs 60,000 crore.
  • The 400th company that got listed on BSE SME, Insolation Energy, opened for subscription from September 25 -29.

4. Haryana finalises MoU with Dubai for investment promotion, land development

  • The Haryana government announced that the government of Dubai has finalized a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with it for cooperation in various economic activities.
  • Under the terms of the MoU, the Government of Dubai shall identify a suitable entity to assist with identifying the potential areas of collaboration, assessing the viability of projects in Haryana.

5. The World Economic Forum (WEF) releases “Education 4.0 Report” 2022

  • A World Economic Forum report states that India’s school-to-work transition process continues to face significant obstacles due to lack of coordinated efforts.
  • The school-to-work transition process is still facing major hurdles in India and a lack of coordinated efforts has resulted in an isolated skilling system that has not been able to achieve its maximum potential

6. Centre extends ethanol subsidy scheme till March 2023

  • The Centre has extended the timeline for disbursement of loans up to March 31 under the ethanol blending programme interest subsidy scheme, notified first in 2018, to facilitate entrepreneurs to complete their projects while availing of government support.
  • In April, the deadline for submitting applications under the scheme was extended six months.

  • A K Anil Kumar is elected as the Vice President of the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) during its Annual Conference InternationalAstronautical Congress (IAC) 2022 held in Paris during 18-22 September 2022.

8. NSIC and Utkarsh Small Finance Bank signs MoU

  • The National Small Industries Corporation Ltd. (NSIC), a Government of India Enterprise under the Ministry of MSME signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Utkarsh Small Finance Bank in New Delhi under its Bank tie-up Scheme.
  • Through the agreement, it aims to support the MSMEs with their credit requirements.

9. Austrian president Alexander Van der Bellen secures second term with clear majority

  • Austria’s current President Alexander Van der Bellen has secured a second six-year term in office.
  • He obtained more than 50% of the vote in an election, avoiding a second-round run-off, according to a forecast.
  • The projection by pollster SORA put Van der Bellen, a 78-year-old former leader of the Greens, on 54.6% with a margin of error of 2.1 percentage points.

10. Max Verstappen retains F1 world title after dramatic Japan win

  • Red Bull driver Max Verstappen was declared Formula One world champion after winning a dramatic rain-shortened Japanese Grand Prix.
  • Red Bull’s Verstappen crossed the line first and he was then awarded the title when second-place finisher Charles Leclerc was given a five-second penalty, dropping him to third.

11. Gross direct tax collection increases by over 23 % to Rs 8,98,000 crore in current financial year

  • The central government’s gross tax collections have risen 24 per cent year-on-year in the current financial year, the Finance Ministry said.
  • Net collections have grown 16 per cent year-on-year to Rs 7.45 lakh crore, achieving over 52 per cent of FY23 Budget Estimate.
  • The growth rate for corporate income tax is 16.73 per cent while that for personal income tax.
  • The refunds amounting to one lakh 53 thousand crore rupees have been issued during 1st April to 8th October this year, which are 81 percent higher than the same period of previous year (2021).

  • The 73rd Raising Day of the Territorial Army was celebrated across the country on 09 Oct 2022 to commemorate its raising by the first Governor General Shri C Rajagopalachari on this day in 1949.
  • Lieutenant General Preet Mohindera Singh, Director General of Territorial Army paid tribute to the fallen heroes of the Territorial Army by laying a wreath at the National War Memorial.

13. PM Modi declares Gujarat’s Modhera as India’s first 24×7 solar-powered village

  • PM Narendra Modi declared Modhera village in Gujarat as the country’s first 24×7 solar-powered village.
  • Modhera, which is famous for a centuries-old Sun temple built during the Chalukya, will also be known as a “solar-powered village”, Modi said.
  • The Modhera village is located 25 km from the Mehsana district of Gurajat, and about 100 km from Gandhinagar.

14. Jharkhand, West Bengal top in worst state list in terms of child marriages: MHA

  • According to the latest demographic sample survey by the Union Home Ministry, the percentage of girls getting married before attaining majority is as high as 5.8 in Jharkhand.
  • Around 54.9% of girls are married in West Bengal before attaining the age of 21 years, the figure for Jharkhand is 54.6% as against the national average of 29.5%, said the survey.

15. India US announce launch of new energy storage task force to support clean energy transition

  • The US and India have launched a new task force under the Strategic Clean Energy Partnership, which focuses on the accelerated deployment of energy storage technologies.
  • The US Department of Energy and India’s Ministry of Power launched the Energy Storage Task Force to help scale up and accelerate deployment of energy storage technologies to facilitate clean energy transition.
