1. HDFC Securities opens women-only Digital Centre in Bengaluru

  • HDFC Securities, has announced the opening of India’s first Women-Only Digital Center (DC).
  • This cutting-edge, all-female centre will assist both male and female investors.
  • The company plans to hire more than 100 relationship managers for the women only DC.
  • With the DCs, customers will be able to access support as and when they need it.
  • The centre will be based in Bengaluru and cater to customers from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

2. Cyclone Sitrang kills 35 in Bangladesh, several homes destroyed

  • Cyclone Sitrang made its landfall in a densely-populated low-lying area of Bangladesh on 24th October.
  • The cyclone is said to have moved towards Bangladesh from the north Bay of Bengal at a speed of 56 kmph, causing moderate to heavy rain and squally weather in West Bengal’s coastal districts of South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas and East Midnapore.

3. Anna May Wong to be first Asian American featured on US currency

  • Anna May Wong is set to become the first Asian American to appear on US currency.
  • May was a Chinese-American actress and fashion icon (1905 to 1961).
  • A quarter-dollar coin featuring a close-up image of Wong’s face chin resting on her hand has been circulated from October 24 2022.

5. Ukrainian people win European parliament’s Sakharov prize

  • The European Parliament has awarded its top human rights prize to the people of Ukraine.
  • The Sakharov Prize for freedom of thought is named after the late Soviet dissident Andrei Sakharov and has been awarded annually since 1988 to individuals and organizations defending human rights and freedoms.
  • The award comes with prize money of €50,000 (£43,560), which will be distributed to representatives of Ukrainian civil society.

8. Financial Action Task Force (FATF) blacklists Myanmar, calls for due diligence to transactions in nation

  • FATF has put Myanmar on the ‘black list’ and has called on members to apply enhanced due diligence to business relations and transactions in Myanmar.
  • FATF blacklist, officially designated as High-Risk Jurisdictions subject to a Call for Action, identifies nations with weak anti-money laundering counter-terrorist funding regulatory frameworks.

9. Fifth Khelo India Youth Games to be held in Madhya Pradesh

  • Union minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Thakur said that the 5th edition of Khelo India Youth Games will be held in Madhya Pradesh from 31 January to 11 February 2023.
  • The upcoming edition of the Khelo India Youth Games will feature a total of 27 disciplines; with water sports being included for the first time in the history of the games.
