3. Svante Pääbo wins Nobel Prize 2022 in Medicine for his discoveries on human evolution
- Swedish scientist Svante Pääbo has been awarded the 2022 Nobel Prize for Physiology “for his discoveries concerning the genomes of extinct hominins and human evolution.”
- The prizes carry a cash award of 10 mn. Swedish kronor.
- Last year’s recipients were David Julius and Ardem Patapoutian for their discoveries into how the human body perceives temperature and touch.

4. EXIM Bank extends $100- mn LoC to Maldives for development projects
- Exim Bank India has extended a line of credit of USD 100 million to the Maldives for financing developmental projects.
- With the signing of this LOC agreement, Exim Bank has now 311 lines of credit covering 67 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America Oceania, and the CIS, with credit commitments of around USD 32.31 billion.

- The Union Tourism Ministry released a report, which revealed that Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu registered the most number of foreign tourist visits with 1.26 million and 1.23 million respectively in 2021.
- The report also stated the number of foreign tourist arrivals during 2021 decreased to 1.52 million, nearly 44 per cent decline, compared to 2020, citing Covid-19.

13. Govt issues draft guidelines for listing of regional rural banks (RRBs); minimum net worth of Rs 300 cr required
- The RRBs should have a track record of profitability and earned operating profit of minimum Rs 15 crore for at least three out of the previous five years, according to the draft guidelines issued by the finance ministry recently.
- Besides, there should not be any accumulated loss and the lender should have given return on equity of minimum 10% in 3 out of the preceding 5 yrs.
14. RBI expects inflation to drop to 5.8% in January-March 2023, further down 5.2% in FY24
- The retail inflation to come under control at 5.2% down from 6.7% which RBI has forecast for the current year, RBI said in its ‘Monetary Policy Report September 2022’.
