1. CCI Imposes ₹936.44 Crore cost on Google, the tech giant was found guilty of busing its market position on Play Store

  • The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has imposed more than nine hundred 36 crore rupees penalty on Google in yet another antitrust probe for anti-competitive practices in relation to its Play Store policies.
  • The Commission also directed Google to modify its conduct within a defined timeline.
  • This is the second fine imposed by India’s competition watchdog this month on Google.
  • Earlier CCI had imposed a penalty of Rs. 1337 crore or $162 on Google on 20th October 2022.
  • The CCI has given 30 days to implement the corrective measures and modify its conduct.

2. Former RBI governor Bimal Jalan authored book “From dependence to Self ­Reliance: Mapping India’s Rise as a Global Superpower”

  • From Dependence to Self-Reliance sheds light on some of the priorities that the government can implement at present, as well as in the future, in light of past experience.
  • Written by former governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), this book is based on extensive research and data, and provides a way forward to developing India as an economic stronghold.

3. Coca-Cola’s Sprite becomes billion-dollar brand in Indian market

  • Global soft drinks major Coca-Cola Company said its lemon and lime-flavoured soft drink Sprite has become a $1-billion brand in the Indian market.
  • The company attributed the success of the brand to locally-adapted occasion-based global marketing campaigns.
  • In February, the company informed investors that its brand Thums Up became a $1-billion brand in India.
  • India is the fifth-largest market for Coca-Cola globally.

4. Govt appoints Sangeeta Verma as acting chairperson of CCI

  • The government appointed Sangeeta Verma as the acting chairperson of the Competition Commission of India (CCI).
  • Verma is currently a member at the regulator.
  • Her appointment will be a “period of three months or till appointment of regular Chairperson or till any further orders.
  • The appointment follows full-time Chairperson Ashok Kumar Gupta demitting office in October 2022.
  • Gupta had taken over as the CCI chairperson in November 2018.

5. 10th National Pencak Silat championship inaugurated at Sher-e- Kashmir Indoor Sports Stadium in Srinagar

  • The 10th National Pencak Silat championship for Senior and master Men and Women was inaugurated amid enthusiasm and fervour at Sher-e-Kashmir Indoor Sports Stadium in Srinagar.
  • The event sponsored by J&K Sports Council is being organized by the Pencak Silat Association of J&K under the banner of the Indian Pencak Silat Association.
  • The three-day event is hosting 1200 participants including officials and match referees from 34 States and Union Territories.

6. NLC India inks MoU with National Institute of Wind Energy for onshore, offshore wind power projects

  • NLC India Ltd has entered into a MoU with National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE), an autonomous R&D institution under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, for Strategic Collaboration in developing onshore and offshore wind power projects in India.
  • This MoU is aimed at synergizing the technical expertise of NIWE and the project development capabilities of NLCIL.
  • It also envisages reaping the benefits of repowering operating wind turbines and better operation and maintenance practices.

7. Ministry of Panchayati Raj organizes two-day National Training Workshop on People’s Plan Campaign–2022 – Sabki Yojana Sabka Vikas

  • The Ministry of Panchayati Raj organized a two-day National Training Workshop on People’s Plan Campaign–2022 – Sabki Yojana Sabka Vikas – in New Delhi.
  • The objective of the Workshop was to build the capacity of the officials / Elected Representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions for formulation of their thematic Panchayat Development Plans through different convergent actions.
  • The participating States/ UTs also took part in the Group Exercise on eGramSwaraj portal (https://egramswaraj.gov.in) under the supervision of mentors of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj and Team NIC.

8. REC signs Rs 30,483 Cr agreement for 9 metro projects in Mumbai

  • The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with REC Limited, a central government undertaking, for the funding of ₹30,483 crores for the ongoing nine lines of Metro projects in Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
  • The MMRDA has said that the funding, which has been raised from REC, at the rate of 7.59%.

9. SJVN signs MoU with APDCL to develop 1,000 MW floating solar projects in Assam

  • State-run power company SJVN signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) at Guwahati for developing 1000 MW floating solar power projects in Assam by incorporating a joint venture company.
  • SJVN will invest ₹6000 crore in the state for developing the project.

10. Rishi Sunak Appointed Britain’s Next Prime Minister By King Charles III

  • Rishi Sunak was appointed the U.K.’s prime minister after meeting King Charles III at Buckingham Palace, the third person to assume the mantle this year with the hopes of soothing the political and economic turmoil that marked Liz Truss’ brief tenure, after she replaced Boris Johnson.

11. Uttar Pradesh govt bags Rs 16,000-crore deal for data centre projects

  • Under this proposed policy, the state is planning to set up smaller capacity data centres in the hinterland across the state.
  • The policy will aim to attract private sector investment to attain Rs 30,000 crore in the next five years.
  • Data centre projects in UP include those of Hiranandani Group, Adani Group, NTT Japan, and Web Werks, among others.

12. Netherlands beats China, becomes India’s third-largest export market

  • The Netherlands has emerged as India’s third-largest export destination, ahead of China and Bangladesh.
  • It has moved up two spots in the list of India’s top ten export destinations since FY22, thanks to a 106% surge in despatches until August this fiscal from a year before to $7.5 billion.
  • Indonesia also has moved up seven notches to grab the 7th position.
  • Brazil, which occupied the 21st spot in FY22 is now India’s 8th biggest export market.

13. PFRDA revises equity exposure permitted in NPS for Tier I and Tier II accounts

  • For Tier 1 and Tier II National Pension System (NPS) accounts, the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) has modified the equity allocation standards.
  • According to the new regulation, subscribers can allocate up to 75% of their funds to equity (E) under active choice in a Tier-I account without any tapering requirements once they turn 51 years of age.
  • Ii has also been decided to allow the option to allocate 100% of subscriber’s contribution in Asset Class E (Equity) in Tier-II (optional account) under active choice without any conditions of tapering.
